I've read most of the speedo problems people have been having here and tried most of the solutions that were given but still not working. Heres what I got maybe somebody can help. I bought the bike a week ago the starter was out on it and the previous owner couldnt figure out how to pull it out so he had it all dissasambled on the bike. Speedo hasnt worked since I got it at all
2002 Bulldog
Tach works just fine
no ligts on speedo (but needle does sweep once key is on)
neutal, high beam, or red light on dash do not come on.
turn signal lights on dash do blink
I did find a small yellow wire coming from speedo going to harness under seat that was riped off of connector (I sodered it back on)
miles and trip are showing

I will be ordering a shop manual next week to try and trouble shoot it better but if anyone can help now I would appreatiate it.

If more than one thing in the speedo head isn't working, maybe it's a power or ground wire connection problem.

Thank you for the advice I'll start checking wiring this weekend and let you all know if I found the problem.

Ok I have power and a good ground at the connector for the speed sensor. Does anyone know what the output (green wire) coming out of the sensor should be reading at?

Ok I took apart the speedo and replaced the bulbs they were burnt out so that solved my problem of no light on their. I learned how to recalibrate the speed sensor thanks to the info I got from skipmozilla (thank you so much for that info) but that didn't work. So I ordered a new speed sensor, when it comes in and I install it I will let everyone know if that was the problem.

Speedo on the OL's Bulldog wouldn't calibrate either. It registered about half speed.
I called Autometer, they agreed it needed repair but would not accept it directly from me stating a Big Dog Dealer would need to return it.
I just ordered the same size Autometer from J&P, looks better, just doesn't say Big Dog on it.
Let us know what you find.

I got my neutral light working it was just the plug that was loose behind the lights on the dash I took it apart and had to rig it so the plug would stay on their tight. Still waiting on the speed sensor to see if that will fix my speedo problem (fingers crossed).

I finally got my new speedo in and decided to try to put it in and see if that was my problem. Once I removed the old speedo I noticed some metal shavings at the end of it and got worried so I cleaned out the whole where it goes into then started cleaning out the old speedo to see what it was. Well theres some big areas missing. It looks like it was hitting on the gear in the tranny where it reads the speed, has anyone ever run into this? I'm sure thats why it wasn't reading any speed but I want to know if there may be something wrong with the tranny too?
