I've already had one transmission replaced. I think I will just stop and get the trailer.
Not a bad idea and it will always be a judgment call, however some may not have a trailer near by or at hand. In my case, the bike has never seen a trailer and doubt it will. Still roll and shift is not something I would recommend unless you have to. If not careful and you get to heavy footed, the tranny can take some real abuse for sure.
Had it all apart today and it appears that there is no damage or any problems with the gear set, clutch or anything else other than the cable itself and it did break right at the end ferrel on the clutch side.
Hopefully there is nothing hidden to bother me down the road.
Will offer a bit of advice, if you get a cable that breaks while out on the road and are not close to an easy pick up, if the cable breaks at the grip end, many times you can strip it out and use a pair of vice grips or even wrap a end piece around the reamining and still shift to get you home. Not pretty but can be done. At the lower end, not as easy, but after looking at mine close today, I do think I can buy a cable ferrel with a set screw that would work for that end in an emergency. Will research and see if I can find such and then put one in the tool bag in case it every occurs in the future.
