Does anyone know of a backing plate I can purchase for my stock BDM air cleaner that also incorporates a breather system. I would like to ditch the breather system that came on my 04 Bulldog. Thanks Matt

I have an old stock bdm air cleaner plate you can purchase for S&H cost.

Otherwise look into a doherty.

What breather system and motor do you have now?

I have a S&S 107 and the breather system is stock with the one piece chrome tube that goes over the carburetor and then out a 3/8" hose to the bottom of the bike.

I have never seen that set up as stock from the factory. Have you owned the bike from new? The factory normally vents the heads into the carb. What kind of air cleaner is on the bike.

I am the second owner. I was wondering if the first owner did this since I haven't seen it on other bikes. I am running the stock BDM air cleaner, but I am considering taking Gas Mans advice and going with a Doherty setup. I also considered a Kuryakyn Hypercharger, but have been told its junk.

05 and later don't vent thru backer plate bolts. They use the plate as mentioned with the 3/8 tube coming out of the back and venting to the rear head. You may also have a small vent on the front head going to the manifold.

Sorry , But I think you are wrong. The front head and rear head vent threw hollow bolts that hold the rear backing plate on. This way any oil passed do to venting goes threw the carb and burned. The crank case vent also goes there. When most guyes do any air cleaner swap the crank case vent is dropped to the floor. This is for the 107's the 117's breath differantly. At least this is the way my 107 vents.

You are both correct! But we are talking "apples and oranges" here!

Yes the 05 and newer don't breath through the bolts. But the poster has an 04! :hi:

Yes, correct for the 04 and older (Don't know about the special 117 in 04 though).

 :D

Yes but as I noted 05 and later. These are 117's and do not vent thru the backer bolts. The Cylinder heads are twin cam style on 111, 117 and 124.:hi:

Yea when he mentioned the chrome tube, I thought he was talking about the tube that comes out off the backer on the later bikes. Missed the 04 part:bang:

Bottom line though is someone modified his breather cause originally it came with the rubber hoses that vented to the backing plate.

The chrome tube is an add-on and one I did on my 03. :D

I had that chrome tube setup on my 107 (2003) and it works but it not very 'pleasing to the eye'.

Matter of fact, here is a pic of me shitcanning it!

BigDizl,
I went with a Doherty setup for evos that comes WITH the powervents. I also went with the desperado S&S vented teardrop cover.
you can pick one up here:

S&S CHROME VENTED AIR CLEANER & MOUNT SUPER E/G BDM AIH:eBay Motors (item 120418867472 end time May-17-09 20:00:00 PDT)

Check my thread on the install here:

THEN,
I went with the Doherty nipples and filter to keep any oil mist from dripping down from the power vents. I've ridden the bike for over a month every day to work and back with no blow by or oil smearing along the side of my bike so I'm very happy with the results.

Here's a link to the install of that part:

If you have any other questions about the parts I used, don't hesitate to pm me.
