Accurate mileage?

Getting ready to buy my first Big Dog. I know Big Dog had problems with their speedometers and a common solution is replacement. I've been told that the new speedometer/odometer may zero out the mileage if it's not programed accurately by the manufacturer. I want to be sure that if I buy a used bike showing 1400 miles I not getting a bike that someone racked up 10,000 miles on and then changed the speedo. Is there any way to know for sure?

You could ask to see the service records. The ignition stores information, like how much time is spent at each rpm, but I don't know if it stores the mileage too.

Depends where you buy it from.
Here in NY the miles are reported every
year when the vehicle is inspected.
Makes fraud a little harder.

It helps to post what year/model bike you are asking help on.
Not sure what year Bigdog you are looking at. If the EHC module has a USB connector on it covered by a black vinyl cover then the following will work. If it has a DIN style old keyboard connector then I'm not sure.

The EHC logs the miles accumulated on the EHC currently installed in the bike. If the EHC is the original one, then the total accurate miles information can be reviewed using the EHC service access software via the EHC USB port.

In the software window.... Click...Utilities...Service Form...EHC Data tab...see EHC Odometer data field for miles.

A true service center/dealer will have the access software. It should only take 5 minutes to get the data if the BDM service/dealer knows what their talking about.....else they'll blow you off with some excuse.

They can also pull all BDM warranty/service related info as mentioned above. You could request to be present while they pull the info because the fault codes etc. can be reset by them before a hard copy is made normally by screen captures.

RPM run times
Rev limiter hits
Failure codes - not always meaningful or correct
and much more...

They shouldn't resist the scan if they are reputable and want to make a sale, right!
