Hello all, this seems like THE place to go to learn more about Big Dog Bikes -

I've got a good friend that has a 1998 Vintage Classic - really nice looking bike - but it's having some strange electrical problems.

Been using a trickle charger for awhile to see if that helps - no dice.

Here is what it does.

Battery became corroded - he cleaned it off a few times and re-installed - and it gets corroded again within a few weeks.

We cleaned it all up and used the electrode jelly - put her back together and she started right up. Left the trickle charger on all night to make sure the battery would have a good charge.

Early next morning - bike doesn't start. Got some sparking and smoke from that area.

So what would cause the battery to corrode so bad?

Is this just a case of a bad battery? Or something else shorting out?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have had some of your problems with my 200 pro sport I had the battery smoke which was all due to a loose termial but once that was fixed it continued to display the same problems Soooo I replaced the battery and it fixed the problem but as you know the bike vibrates and things do come loose.

Another problem could be that when you developed the corosion it could have travel thru the wire under the rubber wire cover and when its in there its hard to see it I would throughly check the wires from start to finish and buy a new battery.... Bigdogmac
