Am going to buy a .600 cam, I am mechanical, but never installed a cam (on a bike) and was wondering if it is better left to the professionals. I have done a search (hoping Gas did one of his great "how to's" but to no avail).

Also I have one I found brand new for $130 shipping included. Good, bad, or alright price?

Any one?

I would ask the dealer what the cost is to install. My dealer said 1.5 hour of labor, which in my opinion is so cheap why bother doing it yourself. However, most say it is so easy to do. I have read the manual. Even with adjustable puch rods most likely thay will not come out unless you remove the rocker boxes. My machanic said all he does is adjust push rods as small as they will go, hold up the lifters and pull out the cam. Seems easy enough. I had them pull my cam to put in a 600, and low and behold I already had a 600 S&S cam in the bike. Glad I did not order a new one and hassel with returning it.

ALSO, there are quite a few 600 cams on ebay. Search S&S, then motorcycle parts and accessories. SOme have went for under $100

Install is not very hard and pushrods do not have to be removed. However being that your bike is a 07 you need to check your valve springs. If you have the single wound (behive style) sidewinder spring it is rated only to .585 lift per S&S website. Also on the higher lift cam it would be good to have roller tip rocker arms. To confirm these items you would need to pull the top cover off of the rocker box. :2thumbs:

And as V said... check the springs... you want the 640 S&S springs and they have the red stripe like this
