585 cam performance in stock motor

I am thinking of upgrading my 569 cam to a 585 cam on my 2007 k-9
I spoke with Chris at S&S who was a great help in finding out what was in my stock motor. He informed me that Big Dog put taller pistons (40 thousandths) to reduce noise/compression. He advised me that installing a 585 cam in my engine would be sluggish at the low end without upping the compression. My question is has anyone changed their 569 cam to a 585 without upping the compression and what differences did they see? Thanks guys.

I put the 585 cam in my '09 at the advise of the S&S tech that I contacted. They told me that to use the 600 would require raising the compression and changing the valve springs which was more than I wanted to get into. The cam change did give the bike a noticeable different sound, and to me a noticeable improvement in torque. I have no dyno sheets to prove any improvement, just seat of the pants feeling. I am sure there are people on here that have dyno sheets to give you a better answer that I did.

585 for me. Big change. Good at all RPMs.

If you can afford it, bump the compression and have it honed and put bigger intake and exhaust valves. Huge difference....also upgrade the ignition...brings it all together.
But lookout if you do all these mods.....you will need to hold on with a death grip or the bike will leave you behind.

I did not want to spend the time and money to go the the 600, deck heads and new valve springs.
I put the 585 in my 08. It was a noticeable improvement.
I have a before Dyno sheet but have not done an after sheet yet.
It sounds and runs good. I noticed more low end power.
My 08 has stamped rockers. I adjusted the pushrods but the top end sounds a little sewing machineish to me. I want to put roller rockers in when I have the money to blow.

No problem with mine. I have an 08. it had a stock 546 i believe and went with the 585. Horsepower only went up by 2 but the torque went thru the roof. 109 to 127 after the dyno. Nothing else was changed. i do have a different air cleaner and pipes but no engine mods

The 600 cam intake closes at 55 Deg after bottom dead center. The 585 cam intake closes at 45 Deg after bottom dead center.This means it needs less compression for low end torque. The ABDC numbers and where it is installed at are what determine the dynamic compression of a motor.

Thanks for the input guys. I have seen that the 08 and up motors going from a 546 stock cam to a 585 are happy with it. I am curious to see the results of any 06 07 owners with the stock 569 cam went to a 585 without upping compression. And thanks for the offer Mick! John thanks for that info. I am trying to get some extra oomph out of the bike without tearing into the motor.
