I am looking to install some on my rear fender. 3M suggests cleaning with 3M Adhesive Cleaner then finish with 3M glass cleaner prior to installing. Any suggestions on substitutes for these or what I should clean the fender with??

thanks

I keep a big roll of this stuff and have used it on several surfaces (bikes, autos, tool lockers) and I just make sure the surface is clean...sometimes I use Windex or other glass cleaner to make sure there are no oils.

I've never used any of the 3M cleaners and I've never had a problem.

Any auto body supply store should have a wax and grease remover at a reasonable price if you are concerned about adhesion.

The kit I've used before recommended mixing a solution of vinegar and water to clean the surface. Want all the wax off too.

Any wax and grease remover that is paint safe. Clean with lint free cloth.
I advise makeing a little pull tab or two out of making tape. If you touch the sticky side of the clear film you will have finger print forever. Common mistake.

3M paint protection film turns yellow after a year, it is junk.

Buy AVERY DENISON or CLEARSHIELD brands.

Also, don't clean it with anything that has ammonia in it, will dry it out and it will
begin to crack and dry out.

I installed it for years at my old shop in Michigan and sold different brands, 3M
is the worst.

Mines been in various places on three bikes for more than three years...never had it change color. Maybe it's the Florida Sun...

Have had no probs with my 3m. The trick when installing is to have your hands coated in the solution. I used light soap and water mix. Just enough to make your hands a little slimy and still dry out. Used that tape in the military on just about everything. Never had it turn yellow.
