I have a 2007 K-9. Worth the money?

Any specifics on what it covers? Parts for these things ain't too bad, but if you're not handy the labor will kill you.

I'd getm down to around 6-7 hundred but yea I think so, if you dont do the work yourself thats where its worth it it pays for the $80 hr labor most shops charge

make sure you read the fine print. they are quick to sell you what sounds like a good thing just to get your money. but when you actually have to use the warranty then they act as if you dont exist. or have hidden clauses on things that are not covered.

Most extended warrantes are handled by independent companies. In order to capitalize on it you will have to produce bills and service recordes that any work and scheduled maintenance was done by an authorized BD dealer. When you stat going to the dealer for oil changes and such it starts costing you triple of what it would cost you to do it yourself. But on the other hand if you have any major problems like a starter replacement or engine or transmission work it will pay for itself in one time.

Watch out for that wear clause. There was a member here last year that had an 06 and lost the motor. The rear exhaust valve stem broke and took out the motor. It was not covered because they said it was caused by wear in the valve guide.

I've heard good and bad about the warranties. Some pay with no problems and some don't. If you get one thats going to pay with no hassels and got the extra coin. Its not a bad deal.

Didn't vote cause I don't have a Dog but I have never bought any type of extended warranty. Figure I must be 10K on the plus side by now. Worked in new car sales for about 5 years and I can tell you that sometimes more money is made on the warranty than the vehicle. It's a crap shoot but chances are on your side with this one. jmo

2 cents worth.

A. Unless the bike is still under factory warranty no reputable underwriter will accept the policy. If you're out of warranty and some one is offering you the coverage, run to the nearest exit. Either the underwriter is crooked or the Dealer is.

B. If the bike is still under factory warranty $1000 bucks is too cheap. Knowing something about the loss ratios associated with these bikes the underwriter doesn't know what they are doing and will not be able to afford to pay claims. You can argue about what the contract says until you are blue in the face, but in the end you will get hosed. Period.

C. No one can sell you an extended warranty. What they can sell you is an extended service agreement. (Legal semantics, but important.) If you want to know something about how to choose a quality extended service contract spend some time with google and the terms "admitted insurance" vs. "risk retention", and "Administrator Obligor" vs."Dealer Obligor." Then look the Dealer straight in the eye and ask him to explain them. If he can't, he has no idea what he is selling you and his ignorance will be your nightmare.

Best of luck.

I bought the three year warranty when I got my used AIH chopper.

Transmission started leaking the next day after I got it. The extended warranty company says it is a seal and that is considered wear and tear.

Oh well, at least if major stuff breaks it will be covered.

I am lucky to have a great tech available to me, so I don't worry about getting stuff messed up when I drop off.

In fact, they have it looking better on the return than it did coming in.

Since I have had so many issues with my SG, the warranty, to me, was a must on the chopper.

The motor in my 06 Mastiff blew to pieces at 12k two months after the factory warranty expired. I purchased a 3 year extended warranty and it is covering the cost of the new motor.

Extended warrantys are nothing but a gamble. Some people got em and needed em, some people didn't and needed em, some people didn't and haven't needed em.

I have 14000 on my K9 with out the need for an extended warranty, as of yet

Just sayin
