2009 mastiff head gasket

7000 miles and a little oil on the front jug. Because it is still under warranty s&s said they would fix it. Cool! 2 yes 2 mounth later it will be done next week they said.. i know its warranty work , really? I want to know why this went bad in the first place. The shop has given me a couple of theories are one that im passing in 6th gear and i need to shift one full gear down, the other is that there's an ignition module that Bigdog put on there that doesn't really work well with the SS motor, and that could have caused the gasket to go bad. S&S tells me that the one bigdog puts on there is junk and they recommend a differant one at 650. out of my pocket because bigdog doent see it as being bad and wont replace it .. Both are just theories , im not spending 650 on a theory!!

Are there theories possible or are bad gaskets something i have to put up with on the 117 ss?:bang:

I would say let the bike warm up before riding. I usually go down the highway in 5th doing 70 and when I get above 70 I go into 6th.

Yea, your best bet is to let her warm up before riding. I've changed many rockerbox gaskets on the big dogs. Shit happens. Ignition has nothing to do with it. S&S assembles all the motors now for BD. Maybe someone was in a hurry the day yours was built.

Stuff happens. My 2008 K9 is in the shop now to replace the deck or bottom cylinder gaskets. It has about 8000 miles on it and I ask why that happened and a very good mechanic said he had seen this with some S&S engines. The gasket just starts moving out from under the jug and finally blows out. Not sure why? I warm up the engine every time before riding. Seems like something could be done about gaskets moving around. S&S is going to fix it with only about a week left in the warranty. Not an answer to your question, just say-n.:bang:

I try to let it warm up until the heads are warm/hot and then take it easy for a distance.
Guy down the road from me put a 127 in his harley (it was a bad ass motor) keep firin it up to do burn outs for show and tell, no warm up, and blew it up. Only had about 750 miles on it. And then he blamed everybody else.

Shit sometimes just lets go. Put base gaskets on my softail after 10,000 miles and I always warmed it up before riding. Warming up a v-twin is alway a good idea, only need a minute or two.

my front cylinder has gasket hanging out both sides. I carefully trimmed them and no oil yet but I expect it anytime.
