2007 EFI engine died

Hi Guys,

Engine died while riding. Will crank but no spark.

I found one of the ground wires in the three wire braided connection bundle to the frame next to the battery on the right side using a 1/4" bolt/washer.

One of the crimped fasteners had broken off at its neck section.

Will check all the obvious: Battery, connections, wire, relay, crank sensor, coil, etc..

QUESTION: What are those THREE ground wires providing GROUND to?

Thanks.

Is the bike running after you made the repair.
Haven't made the repair yet but will today. Just tried to catch the broken crimp under the bolt head but the battery was too far down I think to get any spark on the last start attempt. I can find out what they're for but thought someone might have an answer.

This is on BigdogBro2's bike.

Good night you OLD FART.

Well the ground wire repair did not get the spark to fire.

Will be connecting up the laptop to the EHC for DTCs check and the S&S ECM an try to find out if it's getting power. Looks like the EHC is okay so far but I need to check Bro2's LEDs against what I seen on mine at start-up. Almost identical but I missed his ignition or CR LEDs flash at START. I also need to check that power is getting to the coil. One step at a time. S&S ECM module?

Does your bike have a circuit breaker. Sometimes one side of the circuit breaker pops out and you get no power to the coil ecu etc. the 3 ground wires are for oxygen sensors, efi controller and not sure about the 3rd. Hope this helps. I have a few other ideas and some easy ways to check the efi module if its not the breaker or fuse. Call me

Hi Tom,

Will be checking ECM power and PC connection today. Our bikes don't have regular breakers, it's an auto-resettable type without a button. The breakers seem to be okay and power feed relay is working as well.

Hope you are making progress with your bike also.

Cheers

Connected laptop to the S&S ECM and tried firing the rear cylinder but nothing happened.

Plan on testing the crank position sensor and coil power feed at coil today.

Found several chafed wires that need attention.

Okay, just wanted to close this problem with a solution. The fix was a few weeks ago now.

The crank sensor tested fine and all other possibilities were checked, but.

After troublshooting the problem of NO 12v to the ignition coil at the RH side cover connector it lead me to the cause.

This bike had a Scorpion alarm system installed and the problem was the ignition power cutout relay module or the main alarm control module caused the relay module to activate. Anyways after cutting wires that ran to the relay module and connected them together to bypass the relay and feed 12v directly to the coil the bike had spark.

We removed the alarm system because he never really used it in the last two years and cleaned up all the crap wiring mess that the dealer did to install it. Cleaned up all the harnessing and repaired several other chaffed wires and other items.

All is well now and enjoying the ride!

No its an example of why when you change things, you document them.

ie take the wiring diagram and add your changes that you've done to your bike.

This can save you or a shop a lot of time, especially if your on the road and not the normal tech working on it.
