Im lookin at a 06 K-9 that the guy owes 26000.00 but said he thinks the bank will take 13000.00. Would this be a good deal?? What are some of the issues on the 06s?? Thanks...C:cheers:

TP rocker boxes if it's an early model. That would be a great deal....if it goes through.

Camaro,
I was wondering the same thing and started a thread just like this one in early Janurary. Check it out here: http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/general/17460-any-bugs-known-issues-2006-k-9-a.html

Bottom line, there are some "recalls" but the recalls and service bulletins are nothing major. Also, the rocker boxes on the motor are most likely TP Performance and NOT S&S and are known to have issues. There is a misalignment issue. However, I don't think it starts to be an issue to upwards of 20k miles. Mine ended up having the TP rocker boxes and I bought it anyway.

At 26k the dude is screwed and so is anyone wanting to get a loan for it. Banks go by KBB and NADA and if the bike blue books for $18k, they're not giving you 26k. I also have never seen a bank that would take half payoff just to get out from under the bike. The bank could easily sell the bike at wholesale for like $16-18k if it's in great shape with low miles. I would have to see it in writing to believe they would take $13k and take that kind of loss.

Great bike. I love mine and I have no regrets. Unfortunately due to shitty weather I've only got to ride it 4 times, lol, but each time was a decent distance. If we get a break in weather me and the bike will not be separable.

I was thinkin the same thing Linx, about the bank. But the guy said he would run it by them. I cant believe how the prices on bikes has gone in the shitter. Im not really in the market but that would be hard to walk away from. I love my pitbull but I fucked up and rode my buddies k9. What a nice ride. Can a 06 have air shock put on it??

KnotSo; Owes 26k and thinks the bank will take half? I would be very wary of this. Got a vin # so you can check the bikes history?[/quote said:

Plus, some of these Recalls & Service Bulletins "CAN BE" a big deal! Sorry linx, I'd have to disagree.

Make sure you know what's "been done", and what "still needs to be done"! :2thumbs:

Retail on an '06 is around $16,500, if he owes the bank $26g.....he's in some deep shit. Can't see them settling for $13g, but I'll bet thats what a dealer offered him as a "trade-in".

The custom bike market had taken a HUGE dive, worse than any H-D bike. If you bought one of these bikes in the last 2 - 3 years, you'd better plan on keeping it until its paid off or your screwed. After its in the neighborhood of 5 - 6 years old you can guarantee yourself you just lost over $20g on your toy.

If anyone thinks these bikes will hold any kind of value...

Under this scenario, one buys a scoot for 26K in 2006, and next year (5 years old) it is only worth 6K? Guaranteed? Really??

re-read the post....and pay attention

If you bought a bike for $30g in '04 its now worth $10g...........see the concept?

KnotSo, I'm holding a NADA business/dealer book in my hand

'06 K9 retail $29,900

want to know whats its worth to a dealer as trade-in?.............$14,200

and it's only 4 years old, ask me in 2 more years and I'll bet its under $10g

So let me get this straight.

You guys are arguing over how much an '06 K-9 will be worth, 2 years into the future?

Let me just ask you these questions.

Who's really going to care in 2 more years what an '06 K-9 is worth? It's a bike, a toy, not an investment!

How the "F" do you even know if any of us will even be here anymore in 2012?

A friend of mine that has passed many years ago now, had a saying.

"The Man That Dies With The Most Toys, WINS"!

And I doubt seriously that he missed that statement by much in saying that! :2thumbs:

If you are selling the dealer trade in is meaningless. The only value that counts is what the buyer is willing to pay.

Untill that day arrives, my scoot is priceless.

I sorta agree with Dead and Knotso on this after all these motorcycles are toys and if you worried about resale one should never have bought one... as a Ferrari goes through the floor in 3 years
