2005 Ridgeback trans clicking

Long story short here, my clutch basket nut had backed off, I removed it cleaned Loctite and reinstalled, wobbly basket cured. Now I hear I light clicking noise in the trans. I only noticed it in 1st gear and neutral. I've torn it back down all the way to just the trans without the clutch etc. When I spin the main shaft with my hand I hear a light clicking noise. It doesn't really sound like a bearing to me, but it could be. I don't know if the basket coming loose has cause some internal problems or if is just starting to go. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I hope I'm posting this in the right section.

If you take the main shaft do you have play left and right?

Very possible bearing is worn due to the hub nut coming loose. Not to mention 05/06 and early 07 had a weak mainshaft

There isn't any play in the shaft. To me it seems to have a lot of free play or backlash when it's in gear, but I'm not sure how much it should have. It feels good spinning it in neutral, but I hear that light clicking noise.

I was thinking about this some more. Do you think it's possible that I caused a problem in the shift drum area when I was torquing the basket back down? I did have it in 1st gear when I was torquing it down. Just a thought. I will pull the top off tomorrow and spin in and see if I still hear it.

Do you have any issues changing gears? During riding?

You didn't use a primary chain locking tool? You left it in gear?

Update. I took the shift drum off and the clicking stops. It appears that the noise I'm hearing is one of the gears is slightly engaging. I reinstalled the drum several times to confirm my thoughts. I do see some slight wear in the drum, but I'm not sure if it's enough to cause this problem.image.jpgoimage.jpg

I have to know what it is. Summer is coming and road trips are in the works, plus it's just not right. Now I just need to figure out if it's the drum,a fork or.....?

Sorry to hear of yr plight. On a side note, if you do replace the drum, there are different shift orders you can choose from. When mine was replaced I didnt know I had options. I found that I would have wanted the N123456 drum. Just wanted to mention it to you. Keep us posted on yr findings.

I've wanted to change it to the N1 drum for a while, so now may be the time.

Well according to the guys at Baker they don't make an N1 drum for the 2005 and later Big dog trans. He said also he would think its a fork problem more than a drum problem. I will look into a fork set.

My apologies if I mislead you. Apparently I was misled.
