I just bought my first bike! 2004 Mastiff. I am waiting for a 1.4kw starter to come in to replace the 1.2kw. When I took the primary cover off to remove the starter I notice some play with the bendix gear. The gear itself looks good; no pitting, cracks, ware, it just wiggles a bit. Is that okay? Also, I can't find an owners manual later than 2005. I am mechanically inclined but not a bike mechanic. Thanks for the help!

Cheers!

Wrote my intro. Thanks. I've never been on a forum before. This seems to be the only place I can find any info prior to 2005. Thought, " I should probably join this."

Use the search feature and read read read....nearly everything that can go wrong with a Dog has, and has been fixed. This is THE place for info. Oh and as a side note, an 04 Mastiff ain't quite "vintage". They run from 94-00.

So, battery is new, waiting for the starter motor to come in. Read a little bit about bend gears and jackshafts. I am assuming a little play is okay? I really want this starter to come in!!!!! I'm chomping at the bit to just turn this Dog on and listen to her Bark!!!

By the way, this forum thing is AWESOME. Thank you all, for being here for the community. Now all I need to do is get some photos uploaded.

God Bless America! Go Navy! Beat Army!

Cheers!

Or on mission. Let's not jump to conclusions fellas. The bike is running now, thanks to your support. However, there are plenty of things wrong still. The throttle cable snapped, rear shocks are worn out, the kill switch doesn't work, needs new tires, and there's a short somewhere that keeps the starter engaged after it starts. Was home long enough to figure out that it's not ready to ride and got sent to another state for training. That along with a change of duty station has put a pause on my beautiful project. The up side, I moved to sunny San Diego, so I'll be riding more than I would in Wa. Thanks for checking in on me! I'm alive and well and gearing up for deployment number 8.

Thank you, hope all goes well and safe return.

It's all good. It's been a busy few months for me. I really just want to get the bike running right and safe so I can actually ride it. I bought it in July and still have yet to ride.

I have the 04 mastiff myself. I like it ALOT. I had an offer to sell it today. He shot me a price probably what it's worth. I shot him a price back, did I mention I liked it ALOT. It's a fun bike and the 107 has plenty of power.
