2004 Bulldog extensive modification

Hi Guys, I havent been here for a while, haven't been able to ride because of a bad hernia, but I had an operation and should be back in the saddle in a few weeks.

I am seriously thinking of modifying my 2004 Bulldog, which I feel looks a bit dated in 2021.
My bike already has a super simplified electrical wiring and a crane ignition.

Here is the list:

New, slightly taller handlebars with performance machine controls, grips, mirror and minimalist switches.
New Motogadget speedo.
New headlight with a small painted fairing. (just around the headlight)
New smaller front fender.
New coil bracket with key
S&S air filter

I am also toying with the idea of fitting performance machine forward controls or oem roulette pegs

Basically, I want to try to get closer to the look of the bike in the picture, albeit with more chrome and polished aluminium of course and keeping my grey + flames paint scheme and i want to remove everything that indicate that it is a Big Dog bike... I am thinking of selling the bike in a few years and here in Europe people run away from Big Dogs, they have a terrible reputation... :-/

What do you guys think?

Hi, I have been a member in this forum since 2009 and I have been a harley owner for 30 years, the Bulldog is my first "non harley" custom bike.

I live in Brussels, Belgium. My bike has been maintained by Luycks Motorcycles here in Belgium, they were the official shop before Big Dog went bankrupt.

I am sorry if my opinions bother you but Big Dog bikes do have a bad reputation here, mostly because of the ECU problems and the bankruptcy situation. I have had my problems with mine, nevertheless I still like it very much! I just guess the "pro street" look has aged a little worse than the chopper style bike you have. Hence my ideas to "modernise" my bike a little.

Not sure what lentzii is saying. I haven’t translated it yet. But I think he thinks your full of shit. Europeans love these bikes.I know he does and he rides with a few who do. No matter what you do to that bike the Title will still say Big Dog on it. Read lentzlii post just as he wrote it. He used words like.. I also don’t care what other people think about my bikes. I love them. That’s what matters. Most people who don’t know about choppers think there junk and always have to work on them. I have heard Easter egg bikes. Painted turds. Crap like this. Jealousy is a MFer. If you already have the electrical system simplified add your upgrades and enjoy it.

I appreciate Lentzi's enthusiasm for the Big Dog brand, I appreciate less him judging me, or suggesting i dont know what I am talking about. He has been a Big Dog owner for 4 years, I have been riding one for 14 years and riding Harleys for more than 30.

I dont pretend to know the BDM scene in Munich where he lives, I know there are more BDM over there because lots of american servicemen stationed in Germany brought their own and they ended up on the used market over there because they are worth more in Germany than in the US.

Things are VERY different here in Belgium and at one point mine was one of only TWO Big Dogs in the whole country, the importer went bankrupt pretty much at the same time as the company and, apart from Luycks who is an independent shop doing the maintenance and are excellent, the reputation of the brand is REALLY BAD here in Belgium.

I love my 2004 Bulldog and it will always have a BDM title, but I dont see the problem with customising a custom bike, a lot of Harley based customs have no mention of the Harley brand anywhere.

I am just asking the forum's opinion about mods I want to do to my bike to give it a different, more modern look... Never thought I would get flamed in german by a guy that was riding a suzuki gsxr four years ago... :-D

Der Importeur ging fast zur gleichen Zeit wie das Unternehmen bankrott und abgesehen von Luycks, der ein unabhängiges Geschäft ist, das die Wartung durchführt und sind ausgezeichnet, der Ruf der Marke ist hier in Belgien wirklich schlecht.

Ich liebe meine 2004er Bulldogge und sie wird immer einen BDM-Titel haben, aber ich sehe kein Problem beim Anpassen eines Custom-Bikes. Viele Harley-Kunden haben die Marke Harley nirgends erwähnt.

Ich frage nur die Meinung des Forums zu Mods, die ich an meinem Fahrrad machen möchte, um ihm ein anderes, moderneres Aussehen zu verleihen ... Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass ich von einem Typen, der vor vier Jahren einen Suzuki Gsxr fuhr, auf Deutsch geflammt würde. . :-D
