1996 Vintage Classic Oil Filter

Energy One
Here's a good one -Thought I'd better change the fluids in the new Dog. Guess what? No oil filter! WTF? I hate to admit it but didn't notice it when I was looking it over before I bought it. Image searched and found a 97 and it appears there is no oil filter on it either. Can hardly believe this is the original setup. Anyone else seen this?

No filter, no oil, locked up motor, boat anchor?

Thats it now ya got to buy a boat! :D

How about a pic of the front of the engine right above the voltage regulator. Also not sayin somebody in the past didn't relocate the filter, but if they had it should be noticible.

The rubber mounted bikes have the oil filter behind the transmission.
The drive train is very similar to a FXR.
I've posted a couple of pic in my gallery showing close ups.

You're most welcome. The early BigDogs are great bikes.
Most of the parts you'll need are related to FXRs or EVO baggers. Enjoy!

I knownthis is an old post but I have a 2000 Vintage Classic. It has a Oil Relocate kit from what I am told. The shop I room it to put the wrong oil filter on it and cause the breather gear to blow out. Now I can't find the correct oil filter. Any clue as to a part #? HD can't cross reference it. The threads are smaller than all the filters I've tried for an EVO. Anybhelp is appreciated.

Martin, the filter is common. So is the blow-by. The blow-by has little to do with the filter. It has everything to do with over-filling the oil reservoir. Make sure you do not fill the reservoir above the weld at the BOTTOM of the neck weld when the bike is standing plumb. Otherwise, it will wet-sump the excess up that breather tube and all over the side of your bike. You will still get an occasional drip. Any good EVO mechanic can relocate that breather tube from the carb air intake to the ground then it will drip out rather than collect on the right side of your bike..
