Anybody know why S&S stopped production of the 117 SSW+ ? Was it because they are making a 124 now??

My understanding is the 117 is only available to production companies.

The S&S 117" engine is produced exclusively for BDM.
Correct - just as American Ironhorse had dibbs on the S&S 111" design as their stock offering (back when they were still alive and kicking). The 117" was never offered from S&S to the general public as far as I know, and has been exclusive only to BDM.

In fact, J&P Cycles is offering rebuilt S&S 117 SSW+ motors for around $4600 with no warranty. Don't know if I would drop that much coin on an engine with no warranty, but it would be nice to have a spare sitting around the shop just in case!

No, other companies used it also. Swift, American Iron Horse and others.

I stand corrected..you're right - other companies did offer the 117" motor. But it was never advertised by S&S in their catalog as one of their standards, to the best of my knowledge, thus not available to the "general public"??
I think it's a great engine, and I'm sorry they're phasing it out.

Maybe Harley should buy the rights to it and put it in their CVO bikes instead of their 110" motor that's been given them lots of problems and warranty fits the past couple years! lol:lol: :loony:
