107 vs 117

Get the 04 Bulldog, it came with the 117". The difference is 10 CI. LOL. CI is king. If you don't care about ever doing engine mods or needing more power, the 107 will be just fine. I would always take the big block over a small block anyday.

What Barhopper says is true, BUT the 107's run damn good. MY 08 Mastiff was not any stronger than my 03 (with a 107 motor) until I put a 585 cam in the 08. Plus the early 117 motors are not pure S&S and do not put out all the power they are capable of without some modifications. Many threads here on this question so look them up and then decide.

Now I heard the 107's run smoother than the 117's. What's your experience marinecorpsmike?

The shop guys at Big Dog dealer (Salt Lake City) told me that the 107 was a "bullet-proof" motor and so far after nearly 3 years and thousands of miles I tend to agree.

I put it in my custom build as a new take-out fully polished motor out of a 2004 BDM chopper.

Been a great choice in my opinion and my friend Mike (who has a 124 in his) has ridden mine and said I sure don't need anymore power.

Stock for stock? No question, 107.. More power and reliability. If you are modifying, can't help you, but my 107 makes enough power as is:D

My 04 Mastiff is my first BDM, haven't even ever ridden a 117, but man it's like a Timex watch. It takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. I've heard a lot of guys having to replace their EHC's though, see if it already has the Wire-Plus replacement. Smartest thing I ever did was lose the EHC for the Wire-Plus.:flag:

I would have to agree the 107 is a great motor, even though I've got the 117.

I've got the 107 on the boxer and 117 on the K9 and love them both. My bikes only have minor mods. To me the boxer feels quicker and I plan on doing more mods to the K9 to release some of those ponies. The Boxer rides much smoother, but it is rubber mounted vs's frame mounted and has a shorter wheel base. 117 vibrates pretty good when you hit 4000 RPM, but I love it just the same.
