Got a 09 K9 two weeks ago and all has been great. I've tried to research this and cant find anything. Yesterday I shut it off and a couple hours later went to start it and it turned over fine but didnt want to start, tried it again and she fired right off. Today I went down to start it and all she wants to do is turn over, any suggestions?? When you turn the key on the speedometer reeds 49441? Is that a fault code? If so what does it mean? No new add ons, nothing has changed since I got the bike, I filled it up with fuel yesterday at the same spot I always get fuel. Please tell me this is a simple fix.

Thanks

Turn on the gas! Check the plugs - maybe no fire? So, what I am saying is you need gas, spark, and compression (assuming your compression is good).

come on guys give me a little more info, you guys are the experts. Sound like a wiring issue? need to do a wire plus upgrade? Somebody out there has had to of had this happem to them.

Thanks

Ok, this is a simple fix....maybe

Simple stuff first. Make sure you are going through the proper start sequence (easy to forget a step when getting in a hurry).

If it is "seems to crank over really easy now", check the compression in each cylinder.

I agree with nuke/knot. Check the simple things first. Spark and fuel. Before you jump to conclusions about ehc. It would be unusual to just lose compression. You can push on your comp releases to make sure they are not stuck but it should still start. Even if it had a loose plug or bad head gasket it should still start, just run like crap. Go from there. Since your efi, there will probably be fewer responses to your issues but someone with efi experience will share some insight. If in fact efi has anything to do with it.

If you disconnected the battery you MUST do the EFI RESET procedure.

There is a label under the seat with the reset information written on it or search the forum.

Check for ignition plug spark.

EFI: Is the fuel pump charging when you press the RUN BUTTON?
The fuel pump runs off the same relay as the coil power.

Record which EHC LEDs are ON when you turn ON the key and then again when you press RUN.

The 49441 number is the speedo calibration TICKs per mile? from the sender unit.

All good tips. Since its an EFI bike and was running for 2 weeks fine and now nothing but cranking over start with the basics.

Air, fuel and spark. Air is a simple one, just remove the breather cover and make sure your filter is not completely plugged up. I doubt its this one since even a dirty filter would usually still allow enough flow to allow the bike to fire up and run.

Fuel - being its an EFI bike when you first hit the run button does your fuel pump cycle on for about 2 seconds? This allows the fuel system to "prime up" the fuel rail to the injectors so fuel is available when you hit the start button. You should have between 58 to 62 psi on the fuel rail after the pump has activated. Is there any blockage at the injectors causing you to not get fuel? Chances are if there was it would be on one injector only and cause the bike to fire on one cylinder only though but its possible. Also if you know someone that has the BDM EFI software you can link to the VFI module and there are some diagnostic troubleshooting test that you can do that can help. One test is you can activate each injector and looking down the throttle body with the flashlight you can activate each one and make sure you see fuel spray into the intake manifold.

Next is spark. You get the that directly from the crank position sensor. Close to your VFI module there is a 2 position connector in the battery tray area that has a white and brown wire in it. You can disconnect that connector and take a volt meter. Going across the white and brown wire with a meter to read vac (volts a/c ) not vdc (volts d/c) crank the bike over. You should see around 5 vac at that connector. You can test spark at the spark plugs with either an inline tester or the old school method of grounding the plug. Just be careful doing that though because if you do have spark and you are injecting air/fuel into the cylinder then you can have some dangerous stuff happen.

If you have 5 vac on the crank sensor input but no spark after testing the plugs then take your coil cover off and make sure you are getting 12 vdc at the red wire of the coil with the run button selected on.

If you have air, fuel and spark but still no fire then you can check compression but I doubt its that. Chances you lost compression on both are slim though. If you lost it on one cylinder only it would still fire the bike on the other cylinder.

Now we are getting somewhere. Been talking to Will, was a tech for BD. EFI does it's deal, lights on the box under the seat does it's deal, replaced plugs and new battery ( battery tested bad), tech believes it's the crank positioning sensor. Going for a trailer ride tomorrow to Wichita. As you can prob tell I'm not much of a mechanic, I'm a fireman not a mechanic!! Compression seems to be normal now, why it seemed to turn over easy before I have no idea? But either way it now acts as if it wants to start from time to time, normally after i do a reset. So off I go for a road trip in the morning. Will let you know what I come up with.
