I have only 4400 miles on the bike and it just started missing gears once in a while. Now it has gotten worse. The problem is it wont shit from 4th to 5th but shifts to 6th and is hard to down shift from 6th .It goes from 6th to nothing after a lot playing with the shifter will drop into one of the lower gears. When in neutral it sounds like it might be a gear noise [faint] Thank for your time just want to know if I can fix this or take it to be repaired.

Have you gotten it wet? Check the heim joints on the shift rod...clean and lube them.
Have you checked the shift pawl adj?
I haven't heard your issue described as you've stated personally, but others may chime in with more.

:iagree: I was caught in a big rain storm the next day had hard time shifting. I remembered a post like this one and cleaned heim joints and I was back on the road.

I once had a shift related problem. The bike just started to be hard as hell to shift so I mentioned it to a dealer (now closed) and he found a nickel stuck between the shifter and the transmission case. Talk about weird shit but that`s how it went down. After the tech removed the coin everything returned to normal.

Had the helm joints replaced on my 08 k9 under warranty. Was a design flaw that allowed them to tighten.
