Looking for guidance, was out riding chopper for about 20 mins was running normal. Stopped at redlight and when I released clutch to go…. Major hesitation, shifted through gears up and down while turning throttle to try to keep it moving till I could get out of traffic! Finally died. Pushed 50 yards up grade to where could pull off. After I gathered my thoughts. First thing was to check gas! Well it’s very possible I ran out of gas. There was a little in the tank but not much. After 5 mins decided to try to start. Bike started but no self test on tach and Speedo needle pegged down to 6 on clock then went back to 0 when turned key but before pressing start button. Also noticed oil pressure red light came on but went off once it was started. Think that is normal though. Bike operated normal as I rode about 100 yards till I pulled into gas station! I completely forgot about the reserve.
Filled tank and went to start. Same exact scenario on Speedo. No self test on tach and pegged to 6 then back to 0 when key turned. Turned off engine , checked oil level and it was ok. Let bike sit about 15 mins wondering to trailer or ride. Well started and rode bike home for about 10 miles and it operated normally. Been reading In service manuals for ideas what happened or how to fix the self test when ignition key is first turned on but found nothing! Problem may be bigger than I think. Not sure where to go from here! Looking for knowledge or guidance.
many suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Tim
