Ok, lets start by me saying I am old, should have taken a picture, and think i put shit together wrong. :bang:
I know breather routing has been covered here ad nausium however, it's apparent there is a difference in routing yr to yr. After a few hours reading threads on puke cans and breathers I have yet to find what I would consider a solution I can be confident in (don't want to fuck up the dog)..So....here is another breather question.
I have an 04 chopper, 117cc, stock everything. I noticed more oil than normal dripping from the dog the other day (nervous as I am taking a 2k mi trip in 5 days). The oil appeared to be leaking from where the push rods exit the crankcase. This was after riding around town in HOT KC weather (I may have lugged the engine some too). After further review I think it was actually dripping there from my carb (it was late so i didn't examin too long). This beign the case i decided to put a puke can on.
My breather setup had the front and rear head breathers connected via a T (from air cleaner side, left to rear, right to front) and on the bottom portion of the T was a check valve that goes to the back of the air filter. I thought (this is where i fucked up) the white portion of the check valve pointed to the air cleaner, not to the T (engine) as is described in a thread on here.
After thinking about this, this would mean the valve allowed air to come in through the air cleaner but not puke out to the air cleaner so I think I am wrong (ie should have taken a picture) and where the thread is right.
IDEA: Here is what I was planning to do, leave the front and rear heads connected with a T. Come off the bottom of the T with a hose, with a check valve (white to the engine) and run that to the bottom of the frame, where I would put a small chrome air filter (forget the puke can).
Can someone let me know if the idea as decribed is advisable on a 117 04 chopper? If I were to go back to stock setup, on the 04 117, should check valve allow air / oil to exit to the air cleaner (white to engine) or allow air to come into heads from the air cleaner (white to air cleaner)?
