I don't know if I am posting this in the right area, but here it goes. I have an '03 Mastiff. On the tank there is a "piece" of painted plastic (I guess) that runs from the front of the tank to the rear. Don't know what its proper name is, but where it mounts on the top of the tank at the rear the plastic is broke and this "piece" now moves around and is not secure. I have talked to 2 dealerships here in Texas that said they would call me back on a replacement part.........Well here it is 2 weeks later and I still have not heard anything back from these dealerships. So can someone tell me what the name of this piece of plastic is? I need to get a new one and I also need it painted to match my Dog. My Dog is a solid red/maroon type of color. I also asked these dealerships if when they did order this part if Big Dog could paint it there at the factory, so it would look like it is stock and I got the "well I don't know" answer. So if anyone has had the same issue or can get me pointed in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It sometimes called the speedo mount or bib. You can probably call BD direct and they will be able to help you. Otherwise go to a good bodyshop and they will be able to fix it and maybe even repaint it for you. It's not a big deal.

With that being said is there someway to read my paint code through the vin or by some other means?

If you call BD and give them the number imprinted on your stem at the top of your frame just below the handlebars, BD should be able to give you the paint scheme. Mine starts with "M" for mastiff and has 4 digits, I assume yours does too. In any case, BD should have the answers for you.

After you get it fixed it's very important that you have the bolt that goes through that hole adjusted properly. If you look at the frame bolt you will see it's adjustable up and down. If you have it set too low and you bolt on the center piece it will just break out again.

As CC memtioned I would just take it to a body shop that deals in fiberglass and then them fix it from the bottom faster and you won't have to worry about mismatched paint.

I wish I had more money.
I saw one at my dealer the other day and it was like 80. and some change. As far as getting it painted. Take it to a body shop.

Are you talking about your 'dash'???

If so, you can sometimes find them on Ebay, and as Ray said, make sure you torque the mounting bolt properly or you will crack/break it again.

Ok, I see that it is refered to by a couple of different names. I will go by and talk to a local body shop here and see if they can make a solid repair. I will call Big Dog and give them the number to get the paint scheme and just give it to the body shop. I am just worried that it will not look the same as "the factory look" when it is complete. And I don't want to waste my cash on something that is going to look like ass when it is all said and done. Does anyone know what brand of paint BDM uses? House of Kolor, PPG, ect.
I also will try to find the torque specs on this if they have any.
