Fork Oil weight?

been reading alot since the bike is still down. The 04 service manual calls for 10W fork oil. I see alot of post on here using 20 and 30 w. any issues using 10W or is this just rider preference? I just changed the oil with 10W before I installed the forks.

I have 20wt in my K-9 as i like a firm feel combined with the progressive susspension and my little diverter plate.
Very rough roads here in Australia compared to the US roads.

the '07 owner's manual says to "drain and refill the front forks every 5,000 miles or annually. The Chopper, K-9, Mastiff, Pitbull, and Ridgeback use 10 oz. of 30W synthetic fork oil."

:flag:I use 20wt. tried 10 wt. once before and was to light on my k-9. Friend of mine who is an ace mechanic on big dogs says 30wt is to heavey for any of the dogs!

My 2008 service manual says to change fork oil every 10,000 miles with PJ-1 30 weight (10 weight for Pitbull). I am curious why 30 wt would be too heavy?

If you like a spongee feeling front end then use the 10wt. If not use the 20 wt and it will give you a firmer ride. I live in the northeast where there are tons of potholes and the 20 wt was fine. If you really want a stiff ride then go to a 30 Wt, but I would not suggest doing it. Do not overfill the tubes because that will also change the ride.

Fork Oil

I'm not the handiest person in the world and have never done too much work on motorcycles but, How hard is it to change the fork oil. I would love to attempt this but, I'm a little nervous not being much of a mechanic...
