Bike won't turn over unless connected to cables.

I have a new battery on my 08 Pitbull. Took it to the battery store and had it load tested. It was fine as well. When I turn the key and wait for it to do it's thing, I press the run and then start. It appears to give me one rotation and then nothing and then again one rotation if I keep the button pressed. I pulled the green wire on the starter and tested it with the multimeter and it registered at 12v when I press the start button. Here is the weird part, if I hook up jumper cables to the battery it starts right up. Somebody please guide me in the right direction. I have spent many hours reading the forms and might have missed something. Also, I have no mechanical skills and learning as I go since this is my first bike.

As one of our respected member has preached quite often, Clean and tight ! I had a similar problem on my sporty, cleaned the battery terminals AND cable connectors with sandpaper and retightened them, fixed the problem. Worth a shot.

Also just because the battery tested good doesn't mean it has enuff to crank the bike over how old is the battery?

Original bdm ehc? If so do you leave it on a batery tender?

As far as I know it is. I bought the bike at the end of May from Texas and had it shipped to me in Reno. No records came with it.

Try charging the battery with a good charger until it's fully charged I'd take it right out wile doing this then give it a try my thoughts are it's the battery especially if it starts from cables be sure if you jump it from a vehicle DO NOT have the vehicle running

I did that. When I got home I hooked it up to the charger and placed it in the bike, hooked everything up and the same thing happens. Press the start button it clunks one time and nothing.

Yes sir. They both go down when I push the start button.

Test battery with voltmeter see what its at and like hirter6pack said check compression releases

If it is the battery get a Harley battery 315 cca and last

If one is sticking it could give you that symptom.

When I start my bike after it's been sitting for a while I hit the run button, then start and it usually cranks over one time, then hit it again and it spins like a top, after riding for a while it fires up every time, it's prolly like the guys are saying, either the battery or your connections somewhere, not just on the battery but check all of your connections to make sure they are "Clean & Tight", good luck B.

Just curious, are ya hookin the jumper cables straightto both posts on the battery, or putting the neg clamp on a ground somewhere else? Seems that if it starts with jumpers, it's either a weak battery or a bad connection somewhere, and not the starter ( I think) I have been wrong a time or twelve!
