Rock Star - Dog Update

This is an update to my original thread http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/general/4485-wildwood-nj-debacle.html
I brought my bike in a week ago and I just got a call from Smitty.... It seems my battery is o.k., but I have a faulty regulator  ...Smitty will write up the warranty, part order, and send the faulty regulator back tomorrow. Thanks for defining the issue Rock Star, Smitty in particular . I can live with the turnaround time thus far, but now lets see how long it takes for Big Dog to approve the warranty and send Rock Star the new regulator. Be gentle, but what is everyone's experience with this turnaround time? And is there a pic of an alternator from a previous post...
Thanks

Patience …..what’s that

From reading all the different posts - Bill and Ray's included....it appears that RSC is a fine dealership attracting a huge clientele – manpower (mechanics) might be the bottle neck here. Then again it might just be worth the wait.

Politically correct - That's just my opnion.

My 2005 Chopper has been at RSC for 3 weeks for a transy problem. After 3 weeks, Smitty reported it to be bent shifter forks and shaft. Not sure how ling the parts will take, but I think they're a little slow. Smitty is a good guy, but I believe he's their only mechanic which is their problem. I will let all know about the quality of work. They are also sending my tank out for paint repair and I'll let you know how their paint guy is. Bottom line is that Chris the owner, Mo, and Smitty are nice folks. I just think they need another mechanic to get the work out a little quicker.

Just edited my original post to "regulator".....I'm still learning "grasshopper".

alternator?

are you running a welder off that thing?

probably the regulator, and 1+ week to diagnose it is long, but when you take it to a shop your at their mercy.

Agreed...considering the amount of bikes that were there for service and Smitty as the Lone Ranger, I'm satisfied with my turnaround time :flag:.

Did they send out your transmission?

Mine took a month to repair but, they sent it out. Lots of others are having similar problems as you are. Check the driveline forum for the thread.

I think they just got slammed with more work then they were anticipating. Smitty is working alone, it's not easy to find a decent mechanic around these parts. Sucks Ray, I just took a perfectly good regulator off mine and replaced it with chrome!

I just replaced the VR on my 06 Mastiff with a new 07 because of the recall, and now the 07 are going bad, WTF. I even got rid of the CB and now use a 40 amp fuse. I hope this faulty VR stuff get figured out real quick.

O.k., I got a call back from Smitty yesterday and my bike is completed. It turns out it was not the regulator, but the circuit breaker. He replaced a new circuit breaker, that runs externally now. They also rejetted my bike, which had sputtering issues in the past....turns out my bike was never jetted to adjust for the high performance breather ...I DID NOT ORIGINALLY BUY THE BIKE AT ROCK STAR! Lastly, got my 500 mile service from them since the bike was already there.

Here's my timeline:
Brought Bike in - 4/21/08
Received First Call from Smitty (where he's at with the bike) - 4/28/08
Bike Completed - 5/1/08

No complaints on the turnaround time or staff....thanks.

If weather permits, I'll be reunited with my dog tomorrow :whoop: ......
....ROCK START CUST IF YOUR READING THIS, MANY THANKS  ....

One last thought, Gas Man the first thing you mentioned was Circuit Breaker on this thread http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/general/4485-wildwood-nj-debacle.html
God damn your good!

Sun_Bill,

Good to hear that you got things taken care of and that RockStar is getting you back up. I will say that I was surprised about the circuit breaker note though.

Not being there, but normally simple troubleshooting would id this very quickly, like in min. Little strange but then again there is many times the little things get missed at first.

Have fun riding

sun... how was the battery? If you completely killed it... I would say you at least shortend its life by 50%. If it was to last 2 years... I will guess its junk next year. These batteries aren't that durable like a car battery.

I killed my battery twice...
it spent 2 sessions at ACM for months off the tender...
I only put mine on a tender if it sat for more than a week (3-4 times)...

My battery is still strong? ...at least until I just jinxed myself :bang:

Just something to consider and watch and not be surprised... that's all I'm saying.

Thanks for the heads up. I checked with the mechanic and he was quite certain there was no damage to it. He said the battery seemed a bit weak, but was back to normal once he charged it. G-Man, do you think I would have damaged the battery when I chewed up my pig tail, or when I tried to jump with another bike?
