I have A 2005 Pit bull W/ 117. I have been having trouble with the starter. I have taken it out & cleaned the contacts inside & out..... Still click click click, It will start with the battery charger on boost. I noticed that only my rear compression release is working... shouldn't the front release be working too?
Without the charger on it has 12.6 Volts.. thinking about adding a starter slam button, but looking for advice........ Thanks:bang:

When do the compression releases activate? When you hit the run button or when you hit the starter. Can you actually hear them activate?

Yes both Compression release should work. When you try to start you can manually push down on the front release. I would Check power at the front release under the tank. Take your battery to auto zone and have them do a load check on. Check power at battery when you try to start and I would definitely install a slam button it has saved me more than once. You might want to have your starter rebuilt. Other people will chime in on this.

Should have at least 12.8v to start. How far does the volts drop when you hit the start button? You can manually push the compression releases.

Thanks for the replies guys... The front compression release is stuck. When I take the small wire off the starter and hit the start button, the back release works & the front one wont.... I can't even manually push it in , so I guess its time for a new one. I will take Kaptin Amerika up on that offer and also get a slam button at the same time. Thanks again everyone

Installed mine tonight. Not only was the rear one not working, but I believe it was leaking also. Spun the top part out with my fingers, then put the socket on the bottom of it, and spun it out with my fingers.

Noticed this morning that my rear compression release is stuck in the up (release) position. Will have to pull the gas tank. Curtis do you still rent the tool? Not sure if this is something that can be reset but will know more once I have a minute to look

So your saying when you hit the start button that the comp release button is not pulling in?
We only rent the tool when a customer buys the compression release from us.

The compression release is lifted and when the engine is running I can hear air escaping. Originally I thought I had an exhaust manifold Leak. The release is stuck
