Be safe out there

Today I was in the left hand lane at a stop light. In the right hand lane an other biker was 1 ft away from the back of a pickup truck when a 19 year old girl slammed into his bike sending him into the pickup truck. He had a lot of injuries and had to be air lifted. She was texting and didn't see him. I always stop at least 12' in back of the next car in front of me and turn my front wheel to the left so if someone hits me I go out into the left hand lane and not in back of the car/truck in front of me. A lesson well learned so be careful out there and be safe...

texting while driving is just out of control---people just don't pay attention to the driving aspect of driving any more. I don't know what the answer is but it appears to keep getting worse.

I hate to say it but i always wear a blaze orange shirt over jacket or whatever just for this reason. Just up the street at an intersection a guy was killed due to someone texting and did not see the red light. Guess its a good reason to stay in first gear when at a light.

This is easily my biggest fear when I ride. I'm always in gear with plenty of room between me and the car in front and constantly checking my mirrors when I'm at a red light. Texting while driving is completely out of control.

Saw on the news last night he died. Now the girl will get a $88 reckless driving ticket and he gets a casket. I don't know why Fl won't pass a texting/cell phone law. If it were up to me I'd have a $500 fine if caught using your phone while driving. That is the third rear end accident that happened right next to me. The first 2 were with cars but it will be hard to get this last image of him going into the pickup out of my head.

Makes me think more, and I need to pay more attention to that kind of thing.. I watch people puling out like a mother, but not as much about whats behind me.

I always check my mirrors also. I also pump the brake pedal to make the brake lights flash when I see someone coming up from behind.

I do do this when I am stopping out of the norm... like a few cars before the light to get into a parking lot or just sitting there and I do happen to see someone coming. but on the average, I need to pay more attention to whats coming up on me stopped.

Over here in the UK you get a £100 on the spot fine and 3 penalty points on your licence for using a mobile phone whilst driving. (once you have 12 points you will get banned for a period of time, usually from 2 months to 1 year depending on the circumstances). If you kill or injure someone whilst using your mobile phone then it's off to prison and the last recent case i read about, the woman driver was sentenced to 6 years for driving into and killing someone. I think Singapore are moving in the right direction though as they have recently passed a law that anyone caught using a mobile phone whilst driving will receive a mandatory £500 fine and 6 months prison sentence for first offenders, which rises to a £1000 fine and 12 months prison sentence for repeat offenders. And allthough some of you may think it sounds tough as most of us are guilty of using a mobile phone whilst driving at some point in our lives, i think if you were looking at that punishment, people would really think twice about it and lives would not be so needlessly wasted.

I got hit on a bright red Ducati wearing a neon yellow jacket.

Just today I almost got hit in my car when a guy talking into his cell phone didn't yield as I was coming off the freeway.

He had no idea I ws there and I was in a big Taurus with the horn blaring!

all I read was you drive a Taurus.....WTF

how do you have good tastes in bikes, but drive that? ha
SHO lease (extended rental)

Multi contoured seats allowed me to travel more than 30 minutes since the bike wreck messed up my neck and back.

Also, keeps the miles off the Lightning....which I need to sell. I think all my bikes need to go too....either that or get a steroid epidural quarterly to ride.....and that is after they burned all the nerves in my neck.

Haven't really posted the outcome of the girl hitting me before while I was at 50mph on a bike.

Not dead. That is what I try to focus on.

Yea, it's so tolerated and common now. If someone hits me while they're so much as TOUCHING a fucking phone I better be going to the Hospital. Otherwise I'll be going to jail for the beatdown I give.

That crash in Hudson is just a few miles from where I live, that's sad news.
My dentist was killed in almost the same spot, him and his friend were both mowed down just out having a nice quiet ride. two bikes and the young lady never even slowed. scary out there.
