What are you paying for insurance?

So if your own policy only had 100K liability and you had 50K under/uninsured and they had 50k liability, your telling me that at a total of both which is 100k liability runs out your duck shit?
Once that runs out then my insurance I have thru work would pick up my continuing medical until that max's out. After that there's Disability SS.
Pa. also has full tort and no tort, which is the right to sue or not, but if it is as serious as a broken back it doesn't matter which tort you have cause for serious injuries you can still sue. But thats not going to matter because if they don't have anything, your not going to sue and get anything anyway.
I believe they(the insurance comp) wants all your money for just in case
Pretty much...

If it's their fault your liability doesn't come into play. Their liability would pay $50k, then your underinsured picks up the next $50k (in your example).

There may be other remedies but as you implied, you may win a judgement but that doesn't mean you will see a dime. Ask Ron Coleman's Family. (OJ Simpson civil case).

Problem is some people get insurance to register the car then cancel it. I have thought for years that there ought to be a surcharge on gasoline/diesel that goes to fund a national insurance pool. Then we wouldn't have to carry uninsured coverage because if you drive a vehicle with an internal combustion engine you are paying for some base level coverage every time you fill up.

Here's another WTF moment I just had a couple months ago, I had Rider insurance thru Blackdogmotorcycles, which is where I purchased the bike in '07 for $268/yr. Progressive quoted me $535, so I went with Rider, well the last 5-6yrs it was hanging around the same and this year it was $248, so I thought I would call Progressive for a quote and they came in at $172. Same coverage, so now Progressive is less than Rider, the Agent for Rider called me and asked why I hadn't renewed and I told her I switched to Progressive. She informed me that she was also a Progressive agent and could she see the policy, I showed it to her and she said she couldn't come close to that price and it was apples to apples. There is no consistency in any of this bullshit and I think they are all thieves:angry::rant:

When I get home I'll post up my insurance. Mines full coverage. I think like 17 dollars a month. But I only have like a 4 month riding season and it's insured/valued at 28000

I'm not paying anything for insurance. When I built my last chopper for $25k I decided to insure it. $72 a month. 2 years later some gal talking on her cell phone rear ended me pushing me out into the traffic where a pickup hit my bike as well.

Got a broken leg and a lot of road rash. Turned it into the insurance co and was told because it had only 1 light on the back it didn't meet DOT requirements and would not be insured....

Insurance is just another scam to take your money. Put that money into a savings account and when you need it it will be there. My 2 cents...

I just insured my 2005 Chopper for $166 per year with Geico, just basic liability in NJ. Not giving them any more then I have too, as long as its legal to ride.

X100:2thumbs: However, it is illegal to drive without insurance in Louisiana. I might have to move to Florida.:D

Believe me, I don't believe in insurance at all except when you first buy that new car and owe a ton of money on it. The same goes for the house. And flood insurance....what a load of crap.

Ok so it looks like geico is gonna be the cheapest quote for me, I have to figure out the under and uninsured thing and what numbers I want for those so depending on what I choose for those it would be $38-$68 month.
Bodily-100k-300k
Property-50k
$200 deductible
Underinsured-?
uninsured-?

Limits generally depend on the state you live in. You can go minimum or whatever you feel comfortable with. Geico insures your BD only for NADA book value, just so you know....last time I checked anyway....

I haave the option to decline, 15k-30k,20-40,25-50,50-100 etc. I dont fully understand how it all works so I am not sure what range if any I should pick. Book value is more than what I paid for so I am good there.

Bodily Injury: someone/you get hurt in an accident that you caused (or not) and hospital bills stack up
Property Damage:you drive over/through someone's fence and have to pay
Uninsured motorist: you are in an accident, people get hurt, property gets f-ed up and the other party has NO insurance
Comprehensive: your bike is parked and NOT MOVING and gets damaged
Collision: damage while moving....

I think that's how it was explained to me once....

So would I need uninsured coverage even if I have medical insurance outside of this policy already?
That was my statement earlier, why bother if your covered elsewhere. Even if they have 100K and your injuries are higher than that your other insurance will take over, its not like you'll be throw in the ditch if you run out of insurance.

And at $400 per year savings in 250 years you will have enough saved to pay that $100k medical bill. Talk to someone that has had a stay in a hospital lately.... It doesn't take much to run up a $100k bill. :bang:
