Metzler tire size

While I am rebuilding the pitbull It has come time to change my bald ass tires (Avon) anyway I am thinking about switching to the Metzler. I do have one question do they make a 250/40 X18 tire the only size I saw was 240/40VR-18 - next size was a 260

250 tires

Avon and Dunlop only make the 250 size.
Pirelli and Metzeler 240.

2008 to 2011 pit bulls may have a problem with the 280-60/20" rim they use.
No body seems to be carrying them anymore.

Good luck.

From what I have read before the Metzlers run thinner than the Avons. The 260 may fit, however they are more expensive than the others.

are you sure it's not the other way around? replace avon 300 with metzler 300 and there is/was a problem with rubbing on the metzler.

Wood's right its the other way around, Metzlers run larger. They actually did it that way on purpose thats why they have the odd sizes. If you got a 250 your gonna have to go with the 240, 260 will be WAY TOO big.

Avon Cobra 250 Inflated Width - 9.9"
Metzeler 240 Inflated Width - 9.4"
Metzeler 260 Inflated Width = 10.5"

280 tires

I meant to say the tire not the rim.
J&P cycles even no longer sells the 280-60/20 tire.
It seems they are discontinuing them.
Which will suck, can't run a bike with out tires and the 2008 to 2011 pit bulls
can not use any other size. Even if you change the rims to 18" the frame would hit.

Need to keep looking into this.

Your right, Metzler has a 240, but NOT a 250...You basically have two choices:
1 Avon ~ Cobra
2 Dunlop Elite 3
My 03 Pit Bull is going to need a rear tire within the next 3 or 4 months, and I have been leaning toward the Dunlop. There are decent prices out there. I have one in my "Shopping Cart" for $178.00 and they are fairly newly manufactured. When I called, they said the 33 rd week of 2011.

I have the 260 Metzler on my '05 chopper. It replaced the 250 Avon. So far, I love the Metzler! It's holds the road well, wears well (I'm about 5k into it) and rides smooth. I made the switch to Metzler after poor wear from the Avon and am glad I did. Head and shoulders a better tire so far in my opinion.

So what kind of clearance did you get in your well and in between the frame with the 260?

I'd say I'm a good 1/4" or so from hitting anything. The closest is the belt and I still have good clearance of it.

Thats awesome as I like the Metzlers better as well. Have them on my sporty and they are a nice tire.

Question do you do any 2up riding?

The 2008 to 20011 pit bulls use a 20" rear rim and 20" tire in 280 width.
We are shit out of luck if you need a new tire.
Is there any good news owning this bike.
Now the BDM parts are out of bussines.
We are F$$$ed now as BD owners and what a loss.

I just replaced both tires on the BBC a 300 rear and they are very limited for manufactures/availability. The price was ridiculous as well. The MSRP on the 300 was 475.00 Metzler. I found some online for 313.00 which was the cheapest.

As far as your pitt (280 tires), I would contact Dunlop, Avon, or Metzler and find out if they can manufacture your tires per order. I am sure this would be a pricey option, or reach out to the forumn member who own bike with those tires and work a bulk buy which may reduce cost.

No worries in Europe.

Boss Hoss uses them and stocks them.

When they are out they will produce new ones - that's what the European representative told me.

Still a big stock here.

I just changed out my 300 Avon with a Metzeler 300 and they both have the EXACT same fit! About 1/4" clearance from the belt and still just enough room for my bolts on my sissy bar! I called Metzeler because people where saying that they run bigger and they told me no they should have same fitment and they where right!

Wow this a glitch I never thought of. With the guys in this forum, I trust someone will come up with some solution. My bike is OK for now but that fatty on the back is getting thinner.
We need to put our heads together.

I spoke to the shop that works on my bike of course when I don't have time to do my own work…. He says he can still get the 280's. If someone needs them I can put you in touch with him… hopefully this works out.
