power loss

hi guys was wondering what i can do to my 05 ridgeback to stop it from hitting the rev limiter and shutting off, is there anyway to turn it up or by pass it? everytime i go to get on it i hit it and the bike shuts down, really sucks when your racing someone.. also is this motor just as good as a 113 elbruto or s&s motor? should this bike keep up with a custom built bike with a 113 motor, without all the epa crap in it? thanks

Ya...shift it. It's done by 6k anyway especially if you have the stock cam. The rev limiter should not shut off the bike though.

yes s&s my buddies ironhorse does the same thing,it shuts the fuel down causing the bike to come to a idle and take a moment to come back.. so your saying the stock rev limit is 6000 rpms?

These bikes aren't that technologically advanced. There is no way to shut the fuel down, just spark. I have hit the rev limiter quite a few times and I shift and no problems. You must be hitting it hard and long, and the ehc shuts it down. To rev past that would take an aftermarket ignition system. As I said, no need to bounce it off the rev limiter with a stock camshaft.

I also agree with Vegas!!

also the rev limiter is there for a reason - if you rev the engine higher than it is designed for too often and for too long - goodnight engine

Yeah as these boys said... its not shutting off the fuel, just the spark aka ignition. You have a ,permenantly set by BDM, thunderheart ignition.

You can't change anything on it, not the rev hit, timing, ect. It is also what records your RPM times. You have to go aftermarket.

as many of us are! crane, Dyna, S&S IST - take your pick - I have to say though I personally am not changing the ignition to increase the rev limit but to get a more favourable curve

ok thanks guys, one more question are these motors just as the same as a 113 s&s or other brand motor, meaning are they the same as equal in horsepower and tork? of are they different in numbers cause they are epa pollution controlled motors? thanks

i know that, but from what ive been told these motors dont put out as much h.p as the standard motor, because of air pollution.

It's true, the 117" S&S SSW+ built to BDM/EPA specs has less compression and milder cam compaired to a 117" bought directly from S&S.

The EPA motor barrels are about 0.040" taller (reduced compression) and the normal cam from S&S would have been a 600 if the EPA was not involved. The timing curve would likely be more aggressive if the EPA was not involved also.

the barrels are actually .060" taller than standard but you get the idea - a few of us have shaved this off for a better compression ratio

a slightly separate issue but I see you also have a 2005 bike - do you still have the E carb in there? if you do you might still have the restrictor plates in on the intake manifold, which would be worth checking

I was told by Ohmster that the rev limiter is set at 6280 - and when that is reached, it only fires on one cylindar.

yes lee restictor plates are in there its all original with 500 miles,im gonna get a exhaust a super G carb and filter and see what kind of difference it makes
