Cheaper Alternative to the Scavenger Oil Change System

I liked the idea of the Scavenger system, but I thought that was too expensive and over-built for what it does. I found this baby for 21 bucks from J&P:

CORS Oil Removal Kit: http://www.jpcycles.com/productdetail.aspx?PID=741-326

I've used it and it pulled a good 20 oz of old crap oil out of the sump. Put it on, attach a tube, fill the tank, run the bike, and out comes the old oil a normal change would miss. Works great!

how do they work? you actully drain the oil remove the filter, then refill the oiltank with fresh oil and then attach that thing and start the bike and flush the new oil out? or do you shut it down after you see the new oil starting to come out?

You drain all the oil out of the tank and then remove the filter. Fill the oil tank back up with fresh oul and attache the device to the filter. Start the engine and let it idle. Once you see clean oil coming from the device, shut the engine off and put the filter back on. Top off the tank and your good to go.

Of course you can also take all that used oil and run it through a DeLavel Mulit-disc purifiers or a Sharples Tublar Bowl Super Purifier and save waste of all that good petro! Then again maybe not, just go with the basic of CC Rainmens post.

I do it this way every oil change and just did it the other day. No harm other than a little messy but easy to clean up with the HD oil drip tray.

I just use a piece of cardboard to route the oil away from the bike and into a oil pan. But that's a good idea.

Shit, I just clicked on the link, and J&P isn't selling it anymore.:bang: Was going to by the expensive metal one the other day, glad I didn't. Will have to check their catalog to see if I can find it.

Just cut up an old soda bottle and have it catch the oil which will drain into a pan. Once the oil starts coming out clear then all the old junk is out of the system. Easy as that.

I decided to cut down an old filter.
Just cut through about an inch up from the flange, remove the filter shit, TIG weld a plate that has a small pipe at one edge and attach a hose (hose needs to be positioned at the bottom once screwed on).
Very basic and pimative, but it works. Took me 20 min to make and no mess at all.
A very small amount of old oil may make it back into the system once you see the new oil, but with old oil still sitting in your sump, pump, motor and hoses this small amount aint gonna bother anyone.
