looks to me like it was struck about the 10:00 position and popped the skim coat, along with the paint loose from the tank. also looks like the skim coat around the edge is loose from the tank. look close and you will see tiny cracks around the point of impact about the 8:00/9:00 position.

I wish I had more money.
Maybe her boyfriend did it.
Just kidding friend. I'm seeing another spot up by the gas cap as well. Is that another chip or is it dirt? How much time do you have left on this rotation? If you have much time you may just have the bride take care of it. Either someone local or you could join the exclusive "Painted by Ed" club. They say that's the end all be all of clubs in the bigdog arena.

Franco, Man I know how you feel....a pry bar fell off the lip of my garage door when it was raised and chipped the paint on my rear fender, a bad chip but no dent. My first try was filling the chip with glazing putty then covering with a fat pinstripe. Didn't like that after a while.......ended up smoothing the bottom of a chrome bolt cap and using RTV stuck it over the chip. It's a small chrome cap and I put one on both sides just to make it symmetrical. I plan to get the entire fender repainted this winter...just what I did, your's looks much bigger than mine.

Sorry to see that Franco. I agree with the Ed approach, he may be able to identify the paint...

Thanks for all your replies guys :2thumbs: Some funny ones too :D

My wife has not enough words to apologize, she's devastated... poor thing... she was up on a ladder fixing something on the garage ceiling and a set of plies & a screwdriver fell onto the bike!:bang: She's trying the Nail polish tip right now.

I hate the idea of placing stickers but I ordered some "Bullet holes" from Amazon...

Definitely I want to repaint the tank... I will see if I can find someone locally, if not... I will bite the bullet and send it to AirbrushEd, thing is it will cost me a small fortune to do that as the bike is in Spain! Sending PM to AirbrushEd right now asking for a quote and his thoughts about it.

Thanks again

My condolences buddy, and sorry for your wife..... I'm sure she is very upset. Surely with all those artists in Europe someone can match and touch up. It's gonna cost you more to get it to the states and back than the repair.

You are right Brooks! I will have to do it locally... I will start searching over there.

That's gonna need filled & smoothed up either way. If not you'll still see the lines through a sticker unless it's like a thick aluminum or metal stick on. I think it can be filled, sanded, color matched and clear blended, if you find a good painter. Problem is, it's almost just as easy on a painter to shoot the whole tank as it would be to repair it. The repair process is multiple steps and probably almost as time consuming and expensive as a full tank reshoot. (provided you had prep already done) Worse case scenario maybe just a shade off, but still may beat paying almost as much for a 'not so great repair'. Even with a paint code it could be faded just enough you wouldn't notice until you put the new paint on. It just depends on how much exposed sunlight it's seen being an '06. Sorry you gotta deal with it, but always could be worse. Give your wife a hug. Better your bike than her funeral. It's just a material thing man. You might want to change the paint job anyhow or just add another color to it, maybe like a flaming skull head on both sides or something tricky to give it originality. That would be what I'd try to do, repair the bad spots & paint another color over them expanding the whole paint theme, including the fenders . BTW...I love the fuel line & filter. Best of luck.
