Removing Baffles!

I cut my baffles in half in my V&H 2/2 exhaust a few months ago and didn't have to do any adjustments to the carb.But now It's still not loud enough and I'm planning on removing the baffles entirely.What carb adjustments must I make to keep my low end power,and to keep the bike running right? I'm putting in a set of torque cones in the headers also.Thanks guys!

You need some back pressure or you will loose some hp. Check with S&S. They do not recommend running drag, or open, pipes.

My take away from reading and listening is drag pipes look good...but will never be optimal for street use. Low end suffers a great deal. That said, I'm running BR 2x2 with no baffles and I've learned to ease by that dead spot and stay in the high RPM's when I want power. Not optimal...but sounds sweet!

The torque cones will give some back pressure though you will still loose some low end torque. That said, removing the baffles on the B&R pipes makes them sound like shit in my view due to the pipe diameter. I too am not really happy with the sound of my B&R pipes. I have cut my baffles down to 3" sounds better.

I have a 05 Mastiff with Mean Mother pipes, I removed my baffles over a year ago and havent felt any decrease in power or running has alot of bark now also.

V&H 2-2 sound like crap without baffles. Also back fire a lot and too much decel popping. Go with the big city thunder baffles. Sounds ten times better.

Martin Brother Madusa"s have no Baffles! But the midrange is acceptable, I mean this isn't exactly a drag bike guys!!!!!!!!

Think what people are looking for is that rack off drag pipe sound. Only way to get that is to go to a straight pipe, probably 1-7/8" but you'll loose some torque. With a larger diameter pipe as with the BR's, the diameter is too large, gives that hollow sound.

I cut my baffles,in my BR 2/2 pipes, in half this summer and the sound is louder,but still not what I'm looking for.Had a guy on a quiet Mastiff the other day following me and he thought I had something loose on my exhaust because of that "tincan" sound.Will cutting them shorter help? I do get some decel popping also,and that sounds crappy.I would like to try the BCT baffles,but that is out of my reach right now(unless someone has tried them and didn't like them). I just need a li'l advice guyz! Thanx!

Do more internet research before you jump off that cliff.

You'll likely get decel popping, low torque, less respect and noise tickets.

How damn loud do you think they need to be?

The V&H BR 2x2 bark loud enough on my bike when you want them, even with the factory full baffles with great torque.

I ride on the public streets, not the race course.

Loup Pipes save lives! Enough said. I have my baffles out. Loud and proud. You might have to richen up your immediate and main by on jet. No biggie. The amount of torque on the bottom end isnt enough to sweat it. Its not like your running at the drag strip for numbers. Do what makes you happy. Not what others think you should do. Im a leader, not a follower. Alot of people had led's on bikes. I love them and put them on for safety too!

I'm with the prick on this. Rocky has VH 2x2 BR and choses to ride without baffles. No jetting was needed and she has plenty of power. They are loud but that's what she wants. Down here in the tropics of south Mississippi, they don't ticket for excessive noise on pipes. When we ride through the French Quarters of Nawlins', we do get a few ole foggies that cover their ears, but most just give a thumbs up.

Just don't see why open headers makes you more safer or better.

Open headers are louder than with baffles. I dont ever use a horn. Rap the pipe and it scares the person to get back in their lane.

It's all about personal preference. If you don't mind losing a little power and you want loud pipes, remove the baffles. It won't hurt anything other than your ears. If you want something a little more quiet and efficient, get a Vespa.

I had mine cut in half and ran that way for years. Always wanted something better.
Finally got the BCT this year and am very happy.
Best $80 bucks you can spend on the exhaust in my opinion.

I personally think there is a happy medium between the two. I have the VH BR 2X2 with the baffles in and they are plenty loud for me. I'm not the one who has to have the loudest bike on the block, but I also appreciate the good sound of loud pipes when I'm out and about.

When I come home from bike night around 10 or 11 my neighbors tolerate my bike, so in return I try not to make it to overbearing.
