Thinking of adding an oil cooler.

What brand and model oil cooler do y'all run on the dogs? Plus who makes the matching Stash tube?

I went with the BDM cooler - got it on ebay from Derek (bigdogpartsking) who's here on the forum. It was for a different model, came to find out that the mounting bracket was slightly too large for the '08 Pitbull downtube. Derek came through with a new bracket which fit. I didn't do the "stash" tube, as the clutch cable is attached to the left downtube. I'm sure I could make it work, but I was more interested in the cooler - as being in AZ, we need all the help to keep these dogs cool!

Just so you know, I believe you do not need an oil cooler. I have never seen more than 205 to 210 degrees Fahrenheit which is more than enough margin to the oil temperature operating recommendation by S&S.

I can almost agree with you Huw - but when stuck in traffic for any length in time down here in the serious part of the hot days it wouldn't be bad to have one.

We have the same point, iv been thinkin about this myself, if i do one thing to the dog this year, it will be some kind of cooler.

I agree, my bike shut down twice in traffic with an outside temp of about 99. Put oil cooler on and no problem since.

I guess I was assuming that Shreveport didn't have traffic! But I would still check your actual oil temperature. Use a laser gun or installed oil temperature gauge. I would have to check the S&S site but I really think that if you don't get to 250 degrees you will be too cold in the winter. Up North you would definitely be too cold in the winter which is not good.

I can say that I have not had any temperature issues and I run around all year with 95% of my riding in Louisiana and Texas.

I put an oil cooler on mine. After talking to BB Chopper in Daytona and I noticed on hot days the bike would tend to act like I was dragging an anchor. It never cut out, but would act weird. I would stop for a drink and it would cool down a little, then run better till it heated up again. Now that I put the oil cooler on, it runs better and I don't have the same issue. Bigdogpartsking is where I got mine. I did the Stash tube too so it balances out.

For what you get those things are so expensive. I have not really had any problems with heat here in Florida but who's to say its not a good idea.

I run duel BDM coolers and 50wt Amsoil syn. and never look down at the engine even on the hottest days. Overkill? Maybe, piece of mind Priceless

Yes, some but not as much as you would think.
Fill it as normal, run the bike, then check the oil level.
If low, add some.

Alright all functionality aside, neccessary or not........THEY LOOK BADASS!!

I had mine powder coated and diamond cut added the spike cap and now you be the judge. Who cares what they do......just look at 'em.
