I bought a new Mastiff in 06 and have had nothing but problems. The bike was broke in exactly the way S&S recommended. It was never run hard or over revved. The first 2 years it was 3 clutch cables, leaking heads, brake rotors coming apart and a number of other things. It was serviced at every recommended service interval. At 12K and one month after the factory warranty was out the motor blew to pieces. Valve broke and went into the lower ends. I was 1500 miles from home. Got it back to home in Arizona and took it to Hacienda H.D, Fortunately because of all the problems I had previously with the bike I had purchased an extended warranty. They did everything they could to deny the claim until I got an attorney. After a month of negotiations they said they would cover most of the repairs. The motor was sent back to S&S and was completely rebuilt with S&S rocker boxes. This took a month. It took 7 months and six days before I got the bike back. The new motor was broke in and serviced exactly the way S&S recommended. The new motor has 6K on it now and it smokes so bad that when I pull away from a red light I cannot see the car behind me and it smokes when I get on it at 50 miles an hour from both exhaust pipes. I am assuming that it is valve guides and getting ready to tear the heads apart. The warranty is gone and once again I am more then a thousand miles from home. There is no way in hell that this motor should be having problems with so few miles. I have been unable to get any help from SOS or Big Dog and I don't want to dump any more money into this expensive pile of shit. I like the looks and the ride of this bike but I am really fed up with the lack of reliability and support from Big Dog and S&S.

I have seen this very same post before. So what do you want, help or are you just trying to piss me off. I have a 2006 Mastiff and I love mine, but I work on mine. Maybe you should too and stop your bitching.

Work on your bike! It's broke so what else can you do to it?

Learn about your bike and you'll be happy.

I had alot of problems with my 07 Bulldog(none with the motor) and until finding this forum, I was ready to put it down. I now have it were you can jump on it at any time and not worry about how far you get before something else breaks. Also have some harleys that have alot of trouble free miles. Hang in there and get a service manual, learn as much as you can about the bike and enjoy it. Otherwise throw for sale sign on it and let it go. On the smokin, sund like your rings might not be seated.

Sounds like my damn 04 Ford 6.0 diesel truck that cost me about 48k. Over 14k in repairs before it had 70k miles on it. At least ford covered the cost and after I found the right diesel tec outside of Denver that knew his s@hit problems solved. That was 4 years ago.
I will say sometimes hou just get a lemon.
Stick with it or dump it.

Custom means just that. It is not a Honda, it's not a Harley ( which are damn dependable), These are custom bikes and they require time and effort. You MUST stay on top of them. If you want a bike you never have to work on and can jump on and ride, go look at the Honda Fury. Enjoy the plastic!

Like I said in a earlier post, Need a price and need pictures to make your problem go away.

What help do you expect from Big Dog? They're out of business, are you referring to the dealer that sold you the bike honoring and performing warranty service?

Not that I am a Private Investigator OR a Sherlock Holmes "snooper" but when it smells like douche....there is something sour brewing. That same post can't be legit. Dude must have been in a coma and woke up with BDB on his computer and forgot he posted the same gd post three years ago. Something is rotten in Denmark...is what my "novice" prognosis would be.

So three years ago you had an engine failure and after some bad issues with dealer and insurance, S&S rebuilt engine-is this correct?

I then understand that the S&S factory rebuilt engine of approx 3 years of age with just at 6000 miles on it, is blowing smoke like an old steam engine!

Sorry to hear of such and that would suck for sure considering the pain from before and then to have the S&S Rebuilt engine starting to smoke so bad.

Question, did the original have the S&S Heads and rocker boxes, does the rebuilt have 100% S&S componets?

What oil are you running, what is your normal RPM when crusing, how has it been serviced since the rebuilt? Any recent valve adjustments, any mods beyond stock?

Would be interesting to get some more details if possible.

Has the engine been excessively hot maybe from ideling at stops in high temps, carb adjustment showing good, no lean conditions. Got cooler.

Any info that you can provide may be helpful to others, but assuming that you have not done some mods (that may have stressed the engine more such as Cams) and have not rode it hard and abusively (red line shifts, smoke the tires, luggin idle, not allowing to heat up and getting on it while it is still cold), then it would be unusal to have and S&S Facotry rebuilt engine to start to fail so soon.

As many have said, the warranty is gone, so maybe time to get more familar with the engine and save a few bucks and pull it see what is up.

Either way, sorry to hear of your issues and hope that what ever is causing the smoking, is minor and can be corrected quickly before you have another catostrophic failure.

For me 2005 Mastiff, TP Rockers, 600 cam, PDM still going strong at 31k.
