Hello, I have 2008 Ridgeback with 2000 miles on the bike. I purchased this bike in the fall of 2010, and its been a disaster. As I purchased the bike in september, I had it fully serviced at harley shop with 1000miles package. I did put about 500 miles on the bike since Sept 2010, and it already cost me over a grand in repairs. Here are the issues tha I have with the bike:
1. Transmission could not switch into neutral while bike is in motion. Had mechanic tighten the clutch and adjust the primary.
2. Took bike on the road for about 60 miles after the above service, transmission would not switch to neutral again. Took bike to fix the neutral issue to Bourget dealer (as there were no Big Dog dealers aroud). Picked up bike from service, went on the 300 mile ride in FL. Bike would switch gears up, but wont downshift from 5 to 4th gear. Transmission gets stuck in 5th gear. Waiting for the weather to warm up to take bike for repairs to BD - $$$
3. Two turn signal covers fell off and broke. Replaced covers.
4. Seat suction cup broke. Replaced both seat suction cups.
5. Battery did not charge properly. Replaced and installed new battery.
6. Bike almost went on fire today. Melted wires, electrical shortening. I live in midwest, and store bike covered at the garage. Turned bike on today to warm it up, charge up the battery. Left bike running in the garage for 10 min, then shut it off. Returned to garage 10 min later to find out its full of burning smoke and light flames under the bike. Easily put the flame down, and found out that double wire insulations has melted, and wires were burning (or insulation was burning). Attached are the pictures of the damage.
This is a list of issues that I cought after owning the bike for just a few months and riding it for only 500 miles. I suspect more things will break over time.
I have owned several german and japanese bikes over last 15 years, and never seen a bike that would have such serious issues at 2000 miles mark. I think big dog will be the last american made bike I ever owned. I am very very disapponted in Big Dog quality, will not buy this big dog sh*t ever again!!!!!
Your thoughts and comments are welcome.
