New guy here. Over 60 with a 97 heritage, I plan on keeping(bought it new). I want to buy a retirement gift-major outlay - finally my chopper. Would you people have any hesitation spending 25-30k to BDM at this time? As stated this would be once lifetime thing. No second chances once I got it, I got it. I guess I'm asking your honest faith not in the bike but in the company when it comes to spending $30,000. Thnx ahead of time.

With the market the way it currently is. It is a great time to buy slightly used.
Put the extra money away for unforeseen problems or upgrades.

suggestion here.. look for something that has had wire plus done. you may find low mileage bike w some cool upgrade as well. ive seen 3 bikes this week in various local adds that have had wire plus conversion .. jus something to think about.

I bought mine 6 months old with 432 miles on it. It had $2K in upgrades and I paid $5K under stock retail. I bought a lot of beer with the money I saved. I would look for a used one less than two years old so you still have a warranty in case of problems.

There is some incredible deals out there both new and used. Do your research on different years and models. Everyone on this site is willing to help in some way, shape or form. Throw some questions out there, everyone is very upfront and honest.

I find your lack of faith disturbing. - Darth Vader :)

I'm reading a lot of good advise being offered to you about your question to buy a new BDM as a retirement gift to yourself. I have to agree with the forum members here and say that why not consider used? The market is in your favor right now.
Another thing to consider is even if BDM were to fold tomorrow (NOT) that really has nothing to do with some of the main vendors that BDM uses (S&S, Baker, Etc.) to build their bikes with. I don't think we have to worry about if BDM is going to be around. There will still be skilled people out there to support us.:cheers:

True dat! I would go with a newer used Big Dog. The deals are out there and by the sounds of it, you've owned a Hog for a while, so I bet you know how to do some wrenching. Welcome from Washington State and enjoy the site...:cheers:

Depending on the model you're after; you could buy 2 slightly used ones for the cost of new if you shop wisely and have the time. If you need a new model ordered to your specs to satisfy your thirst; you're going to take a hit as with any vehicle, you know that.
Will BDM survive - who knows and who cares if they make what you want. Fix it when it breaks and ride on either way.

:cheers:

If new is what you want, I'd go for it. I bought mine new and I love my bike. If I had to re-do it, I'd look at the used market but I still have no regrets about buying new. :2thumbs:

Agrees with the pound on this too. Shop around and you can save big time, also agrees with getting one with the Wire plus already installed. I am thrilled to have a used one, and the only other scooter I would trade for is Reapers.:D Welcome to the Pound!

and something to think about... buying used will save you a lot of money and you could put some of it into true custom paint!!!

I paid $32k new and see slightly used K-9's for $20k.

Research then research some more... We are coming into the winter months where sales r down along with prices. When I first started looking I was looking at used as well. Then one day I found a fantastic deal on a new bike so I bought it. There r alot of left over new bikes as far back as 2008 if you look hard enough. Go to the BDM.com and search the dealers, then Cycle Trader, ebay, chopper exchange, etc: you will find one if your dedicated I did.
With the internet u can find a bike anywhere fly and pick it up or have it shipped the choice is yours.

Welcome to BDB.....:hi::hi:
