long story short--- rode my first dog today!!!!!!!!!

gonna buy it (if all goes as planned-fingers crossed:2thumbs:)

noob question--

on my Harley--mirrors are steady, get a very clear stable reflection

on the dog--mirrors vibrating like crazy--cold barely see reflection at all

is this common? or problem with this dog???

Are you knew to motorcycles? Those new couch barges are rubber mounted but everything I've ever owned was solid mounted and my BD is sure smoother than my old HD was.

Welcome to the joys of a hard mounted engine and stiff handle bar bushings.

I added a set of these:

to my AIH chopper and they helped a bunch. Not perfect, but close enough.

Now the rub is that the AIH uses HD style bars so you will need to call them and see if they have something for BDM's.

if the mirrors was the only thing vibrating I would double check the name on the bike and make sure it really was a BDM

When I changed to arlen ness mirrors the only problem was the damn mirror got loose once in awhile until I applied lock tight. Vibration is no problem, but the head turning is a a good habit.

As far as being new to motorcycles, yeah, I guess so, compared to some:zwhistle:, first ride was 1961-- think it was a '58 Lambretta:moped::up:

It's not that bad on my bike when I'm moving or apply throttle...only at idle.:flag:
Yep, same here. Its not like a car mirror while applying throttle but its not too bad. At idle, I would have to hold it with my hand to stop the vibration if I really wanted to see something.

at 1961 all my freinds were swimming into condoms and getting flushed down the toilet...................i personally was building up my strength and agility so i could be the first one to 'THE EGG; when it was my turn.........:lol:

There are several things that contribute to mirror vibration. First, it depends on the length of the mirror stems and the shape of the stems. If you've got long stems that rise high (vertically) above the handlebars, then you're headed for a vibration problem. The reflected image in your mirrors is gonna' look like a UFO on drugs! Look around and see if you can replace the stems with a design that only rises vertically by 3-4 inches, then turns out and runs a longer distance horizontally. That helps.

If you want to keep your existing mirrors and stems, you can try re-doing the mirror mount with some rubber and electrical tape inside the mount. Basically, you are creating your own vibration isolator. Or alternatively, check out that link that someone posted for the "Vibranator" that installs inside your handlebars - looks like a pretty clever design.

I use the mirrors a lot - because I ride in congested traffic in LA.

But I still agree with one of the comments above - you gotta' turn your head and check those lanes beside you. Mirrors won't save you from insane cages. If you're riding beside a car in a nearby lane ... always stay out of the "death zone". That is the region of physical overlap where if the cage suddenly pulls over into your lane - some part of his vehicle will clip your bike. Accelerate through that zone, then re-set to cruising speed.

VIBRANATOR????

I think my girl friend has one of those hid in the bed side table.

If I am curious what is behind me I speed up to warp 9, take a lap around the globe and come up behind them!
