Yeah LDO, It's cold here and too many other places to get to ride without suffering like hell, thus the attitudes?@#!!?? I just have some sympathy for a guy who paid that kind of money for something that didn't cover any more miles than that before breaking. I'd be pissed at the ins. co. too. That being said, who knows, we may not be getting all the facts. If I was gonna spend 10 grand on a motor fix it better be a 124 when I get it back!

I'm with ya.

It's an eye for an eye type a deal. If a member comes on with a decent attitude and asks for help, everyone bends over backwards. If the first line of the thread is this bike is a piece of shit......well. Some of us take that a little personal since we kind of like our bikes.
You're right. They've helped me for sure. The heading on his thread made me flinch too.

These aren't hondas. They are CUSTOM bikes. When you sign on the dotted line you inherit all the problems that incurs. Old technology, solid motor mounts, custom paint, etc I know it's not what you want to hear but it's the truth. Honda=no problems, no power, no looks, no pride..... Big Dog=problems, power, looks, american pride.
WOW.... I agree with most of that.... but, my old Honda (all of them= more power than my stock Dog, good looks (but not nearly as nice as the Dog), and American built pride (they were built and designed in Ohio by Americans, now they're not). And I always thought that America SHOULD build better than anywhere else in the world... so there really is NO reason why these bikes should have problems. Especially for the $$$ we spend on them. Seriously, you spent $30k and get problems, but if you spend $9 - $14k you have worry free riding???? WTF.

Anyway, ride what you like. I hope this guy can do a little self wrenching and get his bike on the road. If nothing else he'll learn more about his bike. And a knowledgeable rider is a better rider.

First off, I absolutely love my bike, problems and all. But….
Do you people hear yourselves? How brainwashed have you become to believe that a high end American made machine means that problems are to be expected and passively accept that your engine blew up after 10K miles. That crap makes me irate. We ride the Ferrari of bikes, sleek and sexy. Ask a Ferrari owner what they would do if their engine blew up after 10K miles. Our bikes are not custom, they are mass produced in a factory. Custom is created in a garage. When I buy American I expect quality, especially on a $29K toy. If a shit country can produce a Honda that never falls apart, we should be able to build a bike that lasts more than 10K miles. If your bike has 50K trouble free miles, good for you, seriously! But we are not talking about you.

AMEN!!! A voice of reason finally!!! I agree 100%. B R A I N W A S H E D. I love me Dog, but hey, the guy riding a honda isn't less of a biker because he's on a honda... and until 2008 the Big Honda's were built and designed in the U.S., with MORE American parts than Harley! Bikes are bikes, some nicer than others. A "true" biker likes to ride, not act like he's superior to others because he rides brand x and they don't. I've ridden patched up and lone wolf. 26years with a m/c license, 34 years riding expeirence... I AM A BIKER... I like all bikes and would ride with rice, rockets, American or anyone that isn't a RUB.... hell, I'll ride with RUB's too.... as long as we get a long.

Hey Provider,

hope you get your bike running without it sending you to the poor house, I feel your pain, my k-9 did nothing but fall apart since day one, and yes, I do believe that for 35grand they should stay together and be reliable and the company should stand behind its products, so if you want to vent, then go ahead, and if anyone starts bashing you or say go by a jap bike, well, maybe thats why bdm is going out of buissness cause alot of people decided to do just that. There is alot of info here and alot of help, listen to whats important and let the bs go in one ear and out the other.

And by the way people, some companies do stand behind thier product even after the warranty is out, Suzuki has a recall on the gsxr due to the frame breaking at the neck, even if it has been used as a stunt bike!, I know this cause I saw the paper at the dealer myself, and for mercury, my dad had the engine in his marquis throw the rod out the side of the block after the warranty went out and they replaced everything from the pan to injectors, thats customer service and he is a repeat customer, that means they will profit off him again unlike alot of the bdm owners that will end up with a jap bike, extra cash left in his pocket from the low purchase price, more power and be so reliable the only time they will go to the dealer is for the oil filter.

so bdm owners, you dont want bdm to go out of buisness do you? then maybe you should give people that actually have a reason to bitch a little breathing room, cause those might just be the guys that keep your dealers doors open later on, just remember, if this guy tells two friends, and they tell two friends, and so on, nobody will even think of purchasing one of these bikes in the future and the resale of your bike will fall so low that youll have to pay someone to take it off your hands, what good will that do?

Personally could care less about the resale, it's mine for the long haul. Ride on!

well chaingunner, the economy is shit and alot of people that were big money grippers are now so far in debt without the same cash flow that they are now having to sell thier toys, maybe it wont hurt you in the long run but it does hurt alot of people out there, thankfully Im not one of them but niether you or I know what the future brings(but if you do, could I please get tonights lotto numbers?), but say it does happen to you and you HAVE to sell your bike, then what? will you have the same opinion as your last statement? just something to think about and not for just about other people, but possibly for yourself.

I feel sorry for this guy cause he spent his savings on this bike just to have it fall apart, it was a retirement present for himself and since hes on a fixed income he is screwed, like I said earlier, hope he gets it running again, but maybe this time itll be right, peace.

Dude! I work very hard to prevent any lose. That means I don't put my self in a situations that I can't handle, been doin it all my life. If I lost my job completely I have investments that I made while times were good (that's called balancing your portfolio) and I could sell. I went for a long time raising my family and making sure I could absorb any possible problems. Hi time people put into perspective the differences between WANTS and NEEDS. Just sayin bro.

Who pays $35K for a 06 Mastiff?!?! I paid $26K for my 08 Mastiff Limited Edition. I did my homework before I bought the bike and knew what to expect from Big Dogs. In the future I'll by a used one for 17K-18K and save a lot of money.

These bikes aren't for everyone. It helps to have some mechanical skills too. My mechanical skills are limited but I get by with some help from my friends and a bit of common sense.

Thats the old glass is half full or half empty syndrome. I feel that there are far more happy owners out there than unhappy ones (at least based on this forum). Hard to believe BD has become the 2nd largest Vtwin builder by having an army of unhappy customers. I agree that we should not let bad karma snowball but this JA is off base. Think HD has any unhappy customers??

I have yet to see any other company back up their products as much as BDM does. You think H-D back there bikes up like BDM? Hell NO!! I have worked for H-D, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda and Bigdog, none of the other companies even came close to backing up their products as much as BDM does. As far as the GSXR frame breakage, BDM will do the same, that is called a safety issue and will be posted to all dealers and customers as a safety bulletin. A lot of times it may even make it to the news and be posted in newspapers and on the net and TV. It has nothing to do with warranty, it has to do with the safety and concern to their customers.
This guy that posted this original post about having a piece of shit bike needs to start calling around to companies. Call S&S, see if they can help him out. Call other very well known engine builders and see what they have to say. What happened to this guy anyhow? Have not seen another post by him for any updates with pics and what not.
Humm could it be just a spam post??:loony::confused:
