Extended warranties?

Has anyone done the extended warranty. If so I would be interested if you have had any claims and how well it was handled. The dealer I am using says $1000 for 24 months, 1150 for 36 mo, and 1300 for 48 mo. Basicly covers the same a Big Dog. I have 5k miles on my 05 chopper and I have not had any break downs, (knock on wood). Give me some feedback I don't have much time to decide. Also I can do most any of the work myself so labor charges aren't really a big issue.

Thanks!

Hey RRRUFF,
Yea the prices are alittle lower than what we offer. It is a hard call. Your biggest worry will be electrical. Starter 400.00, EHC anywhere from 220.00 too 500.00. If you say you haven't had any problems so far, you must be nice to your ride. Most extended are a 50.00 deductable. The warranty companies I've delt with, its has gone smooth.

Cool, I haven't "dogged it much" forgive the pun. I am mostly a crusier. They tell me there is no deductable though on the one they offer. I read alot of the post and I get paranoid cause I haven't many problems.

I'm going to get one from a local dealer during the last month of my warranty. I've had some issues that I'm glad were covered under the warranty...

I picked up the extended for my 04 Chopper specifically to cover the big stuff like the Baker ... haven't had to use it yet ... and I'm happy about that

Hey Coolbreeze,

How about some details like what company do you guys utilize for extended warranties and what kind of coverage do they offer?

I'm also considering getting the extended warranty. My dealer has quoted me $1250 for 48 months, which has to be activated 60 days prior to your 2 year Big Dog warranty date or anniversary date. I'm waiting for him to send me more info, like who is the carrier, and what does it cover. Supposedly it is transferable for $50.00 to the next owner before it expires.

There are lots of Big Dog owners that have not had any problems - since this is largely a problem-solving forum, we hear a lot about the difficulties people have. I've got 6500 miles since April, and it's running strong.

I'm with P8troit... heard too many bad things. besides why o why would you want a warrenty longer than stock that you have to worry about voiding with mods.

Plus understand NONE of these are thru BDM rather a third party company. F THAT!

Yea, I kinda agree gas. Never looked at one for a bike though so I wanted to see what was the feel here. All the ones I have seen on auto's really aren't worth the money unless you have no mechanical skills and lots of $.

Hey Fatdog,

Yea we offer a company called XtremeGard comprehensive. This is specificly for motorcycles. It covers alot I can't type fast enough to list everything. It seems to cover most everything except for your regular maintance parts. If you guys are interested call Terry @ Liberty Big Dog 330-535-9900 ext. 124.
In my opinion the coverage is impressive.

Ok enough salesman talk. I need to get back too gettin greasy

More curious then anything.

I used to file all the warranty claims for all bikes with all companies and the ONLY one that is even half way decent to deal with is XtremeGard...Be very careful about getting a very long aftermarket warranty...I personally have seen 3 warranty companies go belly up and then what...you can't get a refund if they go under. I think that XtremeGard is a safe enough bet, if your going to buy one at all.....My personal opinion is it's not worth the money if you have any mechanical skills at all...they don't cover electrical or anything that fails because of a seal..so if you think about it thats most of what happens to a bike....
If you do proper routine service on your bike and take care of it you should be able to avoid alot of problems...course an occasional motor or trans takes a shit but it's pretty rare...
DO NOT get a warranty from FirstExtended or any of it's sub companies they suck!!! Hard to deal with and don't cover much of anything. The warranty claim people there act like the claim is coming directly out of their check..
Just my 2 cents.....

I got a deal on mine for 4 years for $500 on 05 RB....I jumped all over that. It seems that most of the cost is related to how much the finance person is willing to lose. apparently they get paid a higher % from this. it was quoted higher but with a little stalling and bitch crying you can get the $ down...

Vickie and Coolbreeze,

thanks for the info about XtremeGard. I just received a letter from my dealer today about extending my warranty. I think they are a little confused, since I bought my 2006 in January of this year. But good to know they are offering a good extended warranty.

Well, this is a spre subject for me. I bought a warranty from Pinnacle Protection Plans and it absolutly sucks. i bought it from the dealer where I bought my bike and everytime I have had something happen to my bike they say its not covered. Talk about a waste of money.
