Lubing cables

Brian was complaining about his throttle cables being stiff, and the return cable kept coming off the grip. So I was thinking that there had to be a better way to lube cables. I took the rubber thing off an eye dropper, poked a hole in the top with an ice pick, squeezed it over the end of the cable, filled it with WD-40, and worked the cable in and out till it came out the other end. worked sweet.

When I took it apart, the little brass keeper was missing, so I grabbed a 1/4'' brass rod, and a #2 center drill. (this can also be done with a 1/8'' and 3/16'' drills)

Drilled a hole in the rod.

Took a hack saw and split the end.

Cut it to length, and filed off the ruff edges, and used one of my wife's finger nail files to open the slit, so it would go over the cable.

Ok, I can't hit reply all to everyone. No, it's not the same cut on my finger. This happened two days later with a grinder. Yes, the wife knows I took her file. I have already fest up to it. She has a whole package of them. And yes I do screw up, I'm not perfect, I had to make two of those brass keepers.
