Any of yall ever had this happen? So I took the wife to work this morning because of coarse she wanted to take the "choppa" instead of driving herself.. 20161125_085126.jpg 20161125_082857.jpg lol. so I take her and the whole way there it just don't feel right, I'm riding back and notice the loose rattle noise, pull over at a walgreens and find my bolts had steered off.. so now I gotta try n easy-out these bastards.. lol

Almost looks like they have some rust on them, I wonder if water got in there and rusted them out, probably a good idea to change em out after a while.

I was reading something a while back about using new bolts anytime u have to do any work on ur bike In my area.. I live in the salty humid air of the Gulf coast.. about 35 minutes out.. so things rust here.. It sucks.. I swear I never saw rust in my life until I moved here.. I think they have probably been stretched and we're giving out for a while from the looks of it. I also read a deal on big dogs Facebook about this guy and his bolts steering off and how big of a pos his dog was.. Yada Yada ya.. we'll get to that another time.. lol

When you start drilling the old bolts take your time and try to stay centered. it's a pain in the ass if you bugger up the threads.
Yeah, I do it quite a bit at work, always use a center punch and most of the time I get lucky with those left handed drill bits and center punch.. but all that's at work.. regular drill bits here at the house.. so wish me luck!

Okay.. so I got 180,000 tensile strength grade 8 cap nut screws to replace the factory bolts, tap and die kit to clean threads after extraction using Tapatalk and die kit. The factory nord-lock style washers aren't available and these will hold better.. on with the show..

So, easy outting em out wasn't working, so just went through the bits up sizing until I got to 21/64, then tapped it out using the 3/8 × 16 bit.. keeping everything lubricated with pb blaster so didn't hurt me bits or the frame. Good to go for another 10k miles I'm hoping.. these bolts are alot stronger then the factory zinc bolts.. so I think I'll be good! And of course my little man was helping along the way!20161125_125249.jpg 20161125_132455.jpg 20161125_132736.jpg 20161125_133213.jpg 20161125_125312.jpg

You're lucky to have a fastenal close by.
Yeah, they are awesome.. gave me the tensile strength of the bolts which is three times greater then BDM and the torque specs for the bolts.. I'm glad it wasn't as much of a night mare as I thought it was gunna be.. thank God for them high dollar snap on drill bits and drill.. which BTW I had to go work to get.. lol

Glad you got it out. I don't always have much luck drilling them I welded a nut on the end of it luckily I had just enough it was flush with the frame.

I don't know what washers you got there? Fastenal has those lord lock washers that's where I got mine. Just had to buy 25. I can't recall if they had them in stock or had to have them shipped either way only takes them a day or two. I have used these and about 3,000 miles I've checked the torque a handful of times and they are always to spec never have gotten loose again so I am a believer on these washers.

Those black oxide bolts will rust in no time. Find your self some chrome ones. All chrome Allen head bolts are grade 8 it's industry standard.

Looks great Kel, :old2:I was thinking the ez-outs were probably not gonna do it, drill and tap is the way to go, good job, :old2: hey you might wanna do Ker's trick on the foot pegs, looks like yours are gone!:oldwtf:

Fastenal had three types of these bolts in Stock, and the chrome zinc oxide ones are trash in comparison to what these can hold as far as tensile strength, these are made of the same metal that all my impact tools are and the regular black ones are trash as well.. the nord-lock washers are great, but these are supposed to be better.. we shall see..
