2004 Mastiff Starter removal question

What about a 2004 Mastiff? Have removed Oil tank then the two starter bolts on a 2004 Mastiff but the starter is still not coming all the way out. Do I need to take the primary case off to get to the starter gear or what?

On the left side drive bikes I do believe you need to take off the primary cover to get the starter off

Yep on the 04 models you have to remove the outer primary cover to get at the 7/16 bolt that removes the gear/jackshaft. After that then remove the rear bolts.
