Thank you & Happy Holidays, Mr Wright.
Three weeks ago I talked to the folks at Wild Steed Worx, asking about something to cover up the bad paint bubbles around my 2007 BD Chopper (41,000 miles). The really great guy there said to look on Big Dog Biker for Mr Wright who makes a nice stainless steel paint saver ring. So I did and posted that I was wanting to buy one. The next day I get an e-mail w/Mr Wright’s phone number, we talk, and he ships out the PSR the next day!. It’s a beauty! I’ve noticed a lot of posts about how to remove the old PS (OPS) and install the new one (NPS), but there was not a lot of detail.
I’m posting some pix on how it went for my baby, Evangelina (with a friend helping).

- You can see the damaged paint around the tank hole (after scraping bubbles) in the pix. Like 3/8 inch out from hole.
- I made/modified a couple of punches to remove & install the PS’s. Be sure to use some tape to shield the NPS when tightening. The OPS came out with a few hammer taps.
- As recommended by Mr Wright, we used black RTV gasket maker (Permatex) around tank hole, using some masking tape to keep sealant out of tank.
- Gently fit the NPS in place & screw in the OPS by hand on top of NPS – tighten a bit & measure for center. Wipe off excess RTV – which you will do a few times.
- When satisfied w/centering, use one of the punches and a hammer to gently tighten the OPS over the NPS.
- As Mr Wright says, wait for 24 hrs for the RTV to cure. A beauty – no more tank hole paint worries!
