Whoever did your powdercoat of paint on the frame should have taped off the engine mounts and transmission mounts.
You may want to put some painters tape on them drop them in and trace around the the motor and the transmission and use a disk sander to remove the paint. If the paint gets removed it could cause a misalignment in the drive train.

Good call, I noticed it as soon as I picked it up, the guy did a good job but blasted the mating surfaces. I'm going to take it off with a 3m disk when the time comes.

That is some kind of custom fender....it looks like maybe a 2004 chopper but the axle molding looks off. You sure it's a big dog frame? Just wondering

Good eye, It is a custom rear fender. It is a BDM but it's a Rolling Thunder model (2003).

Definitey interested, polishing I don't mind. I saw a set up for $75 but they were powdercoated black But let me know when you're back and we can go from there. It's slow going for me for several reasons, 1. it's a franken-chopper, 2. lack of in-depth schematics due to BDM of that era being gone, so it's a lot of educated guessing, 3. I'm mechanically inclined but admittedly have an intermediate skill level and that's being generous. Which is why I'm so motivated to build one myself View attachment 58424

Update- Still alive. Went on vacation to Michigan, and managed to collect a few parts on the way. Pictures of the engine coming this weekend.

Question: does anyone know who makes an external fork stop kit for use with the '03 chopper? I managed to pick up a set of trees for $100, but it's the classic "get what you pay for". The internal fork stop holes are questionable. I considered possibly running small helicoils in them for safety's sake. Either way I need to find the right internal fork stop kit. If not, I'm sure there's a way to convert the neck over to external stops with a drive-in kit. Not sure where to begin. The bike had a stock wide-glide front end when I got the roller. I have spare stem and 2 sets of bearings which is good, but all the bike had is a set of races...which the powdercoating shop covered. So they need to be replaced.

What type of triple trees did you get?
May want to give Derrick and Donna or Curtis a call. External fork stops should be pretty easy to find.

1. I agree with the starting a new thread. I think this one has fulfilled its purpose so far 2. The trees are unknown brand. They're billet cut but the description and seller's multiple messages on Ebay were misleading. I asked repeatedly if the internal stop area was in good working order and it was a supposed yes. They were also supposedly never installed and just sprayed black and used for mock ups...well they were definitely used and you can clearly see under the paint that the chrome was trashed which is why they were painted I'm betting. Anyways...pretty much duped out of $100. My fault. Should've just saved a little more and purchased the proper set. I'll see if I have a tap I can run through the holes after I sand blast them to check serviceability. The externals are fine. Bolt-in type. So I figured if I have to press in new races and an stuff anyways, try to shoot for externals to prevent a total loss. I'd much prefer the internals though. From what I can see it should work with the normal press in race/stop on the lower. Fingers crossed lol..now it's getting the right tools for ease of the job. I'll post up some pictures in a bit.

Couldn't find a readily available extractor...so I made one for less that $6 in electrical conduit, using a hack saw, rotary tool, file, and bench vice.

A little adjusting was needed and a tweak here and there, but once I had it right, worked like a champ and had the races out in less than 3 minutes...after almost 2 hours of trial and error tool construction... lol
