I plan on taking my sissy bar on and off this year a lot. Can anyone tell me if I need to use lock tight or not?

Thanks for the help:flag:

BigSugar, I saw the thread from seatmaker and yeah that is pretty tragic, but I must admit, I don't lock-tite mine, as a-matter-of-fact, I even put a little grease on mine since I take my sissy bars on and off so often. I do put some serious ass behind it, when tightening them down, and I inspect the lock washer, never found them loose yet. Knock on wood after seeing the mess a falling bolt can make.

I use a dab of blue loctite on each bolt. I put mine on and off and the loctite is not a issue...

Not, I have been riding mine for the last 3 years and I have never lock tighten mine .Just tighten it real good. I have mine off every other day. On when the wife is riding, off when she is not.

I used to lock tight the bolts but stopped. Just make sure they're tight and does not hurt to check them before a ride.

I lock tight everything, no matter what, and put some azz behind the torque! This stuff costs too much not to.

Second thought I did loctite mine at first but its like the loctite residue was still on it or something because screwing the bar on afterwards required a little effort. Probably cause the threads have excess dried up goop on them. I've cranked them down on the road after they became loose before and didn't go 20 miles before they loosened up again, right side always, never the left for some reason. If you decide not to loctite throw a piece of duck tape over the opening just in case to keep the bolt from doing what it did to mine. Actually you should notice a lot of vibration before it totally falls out, that's if you're not bar hopping, Hmmm, :job: wonder if that's where I went wrong:cheers:

This prolly will only 'muddy' the issue for you but I actually use anti-seize and swapped the stock bolts for stainless. There is alot of water and moisture in that area (if you're an all-weather rider). I just check them every once in a while to make sure there's no movement.

As a good bud said before..

I take mine on and off and use blue loctite. Its never been a problem removing them. But I also loctite everything.
