A female friend of my wifes (who also rides a HD Road King), asked if I would paint a mailbox for a breast cancer fundraiser she was hosting at the hair salon where she works. Apparently one of her co-workers has breast cancer and they decided to do this in her honor.
She simply asked for a "Harley" mailbox to be auctioned off to help raise money for the cause. The event is being hosted at their salon tonight (Saturday 9 Oct). So, during this week, after work and other things, I spent a few hours and whipped this up.
The top half of the mailbox was done by adding a silver/white marbelizer, then solar gold. Over that I added three layers of Kandy tangerine. Then some micro gold flakes and a few more layers of Kandy tangerine.
I taped out a quick graphic that was done in a silver base coat, followed by a light dusting of larger silver metal flake. I then pinstriped it with a basic Harley orange.
The HD logo and real flames were done using Kandy colors. Then three coats of clear. On the front, the door, there was an embossed eagle that I simply hand painted the outline of.
Normally I would have color sanded the clear coat, then re-cleared, buffed and polished. Because this was just a quick job and it's a mailbox that will probably only be viewed from a distance or passing by in a vehicle, I didn't go that far. All paint is from House of Kolor.
Here are some pics.
