Can anything be done besides repaint the tank?

Took my tank to the paint shop yesterday and they pretty much told me I’m screwed. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can repair this without repainting the whole tank? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Its gonna be tough because you have a marbilized paint scheme. No matter what is done to it, the pattern will be off and noticeable...I would re-paint the tank...:2thumbs:

I had air brush Ed fix my fender. It had a dime size chip of paint missing after the headlight landed on it. Looked like brand new after he painted it.

Paint a big black circle around the gas fill. That or you will at least need to spot repair and re clear the tank.

HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO MY '07 CHOPPER, HAD THE DEALER SEND IT BACK UNDER WARRANTY TO BDM FACTORY.
THEY HAD TO GIVE ME AND REPAINT A WHOLE NEW TANK. WITHOUT REPAINTING THE WHOLE TANK, IT WON'T BE THE SAME.

Paintsaver will buy you some time and not cost you much......for now.But you have to stop the gas and its fumes from crawling up under the paint....which I usually do with JB WELD before the tank leaves the shop after painting it

I was thinking the same thing. A "paint saver" with an extra wide band might cover it up and would still look original.

Air Brush Ed was my first thought. :D

I’m ok with an extra wide paint saver. But all the places that sell them don’t give the dimensions. Guess I need to get on the phone and make some calls.

Hi Train, yep been pretty busy. Doing several repairs right now. Now that BDM has no paint shop. I've been working with Brandon (bweg) a little. So between me and the head warranty paint guy, I guess we're the next best thing. Or better depending on how you look at it, lol!
Yeah, that would be an easy fix. But I'd just repaint the whole tank instead of it fighting me on a blend. That would be the most cost-effective way I think. Not only would you have to match the texture of the marbleizer, but also the intensity of the pearl. Not sure, but that looks like one of the paint schemes I designed for BigDog. Marble or tribal axe, or something.

Thanks Ed! I ordered a bigger paint saver hopefully that will get me through the summer. Kudos on your design I love the paint job. I’ll contact you in a couple Months (summers are short in WI) about getting the job done right.

Steve you can put finger nail polish on it to stop the gas from intering it any more and try the tank saver. learned this from an old Harley rider. And it works.
