Congrats on the purchase of your " new favorite toy " ! !

Being patient and asking questions really does pay off

Like that exhaust system... can you tell me who is the maker or . .? Think that style would be nice for my mastiff.
Again , congrats !

Congrats Nice looking 2004.
Is that a 4 inch HITECH open primary? Glad to hear the EHC has already been replaced. :chopper:
What I know about 2004's first year for the EHC's and then they change the plug config. after that. So sissy bar and ehc only fit 2004 years.
Some frames where the rear swing arm connects welded wrong from factory. Strong S&S motors. Very nice bikes.

First ride around the block tonight.
a) The idle is way too low, I think I've located the idle adjustment screw near the choke. Which direction makes it idle at higher RPMs?
b) This 107 engine has a ton of torque. So much so that my cell phone flew out of my pants pocket and I had to retrace my route to find it later.
c) The mirrors on this bike are really small. I may be looking to trade someone for larger mirrors.
d) I didn't notice a gas gauge, is there one? (so I know when I'm low on fuel)
e) The open primary is grabbing at my pants cuff every couple seconds. I take it the only solutions are either skinny jeans or an ankle band?
f) That exhaust is pretty hot. I noticed a hole in my pants after the ride. Luckily those weren't my favorite pants.

With that said, what a great ride, I only could get up enough speed in the neighborhood to shift up to 2nd once. Can't wait to take it on the highway to open it up a bit once I get used to it a little more. Wanted to ride longer but I haven't opened the gas cap yet.

Turns that idle speed screw clockwise and it will raise the rpms. Here is a good page for knowing what does what https://www.sscycle.com/docs/default-source/default-document-library/carbtuningguide.pdf?sfvrsn=2 . Since your bike is carbureted you have a petcock which is on the left side of the tank and above your ignition. If you look closely it should say off, reserve, and on. Good practice is when the bike is off to turn the lever on the petcock to off and then of course to on when you want to ride it. When you run low on gas in the on position the bike will sputter and or die if you are not fast enough to turn that petcock lever to reserve which means you should have about 1 gallon or less in the tank. Best practice is to set your trip meter a couple of times and find out when you usually have to switch over to reserve and then it won't sneak up on you. Best of luck and enjoy your new ride!

Between 100 and 110 miles on the trip - Fill it up. Some get more, some get less. In the city stop and go I am getting about 35mpg, on a ride with no stops about 42mpg.

For the other items ----- Get better jeans :)

Ok so there is no gas gauge then. I use the trip-o-meter method on my other bikes, I'll just get used to it on this one as well.

Tonight's ride went better. I put on regular jeans (didn't need to go to skinny jeans) and no issues.

Also I ordered a gas cap threading from Shannon and it bolted right up into my existing unit taking the place of the plastic, went to the gas station, easy on - easy off. Highly recommend doing this.

On the shift rod issue, no one seemed to know what the length of the 04 Ridgeback should be but Big Dog was able to match a part number and sent me a used one. Turns out it's the 14.##" length (sans the heim joints).
